Yes. I'm working at a job at this very moment knowing full well that I could jump ship and make at least 15-20% more. But the difference is that I like working here. I actually enjoy coming in every day and I like the people I'm working for/with. That's worth more than a raise to me. I realize that someday I'll need to leave, but until that day comes I'm fine with making a little less than my full potential for the friends, atmosphere, and intangible benefits that I have working here.

I think the recognition that those intangibles exist and hold actual value for many is what separates the Damon apologists and those who feel that he has sold out.

According to Damon he didn't have the friendly atmosphere that you have. If your organization didn't appreciate you as much as it's rival I am sure you would not feel such loyality. That is my only point.

Maybe Theo not being the GM, Manny demanding a trade, and Mueller and Millar leaving have made the Red Sox not a nice place for Johnny Damon.

I'm really starting to think the Red Sox are "packing it in"... Dropping payroll to increase profits, since they already have brought a WS championship to Boston. Looks like they've got decent enough pitching to stay competitive, and because of the fenway faithful will still sellout all the games. I just don't know if the way the team is set up (right now), if we have any hope of finishing better then 3rd in the division (behind the yanks and the blue jays). I'm wondering if this was an ownership decision that was made prior to theo's leaving, and quite possibily one of the reasons theo left... Just throwing some ideas out there

I hadnt thought of that, but all your points make it a valid charge.. sucks if its true

Pete, I think you mentioned it before, but there's still alot of time between now and spring training...

I haven't totally giving up hope yet

Now that I'm thinking about it, besides Manny, Schilling, and Varitek are any current Sox players making over 10M a year ?? I don't think so... Varitek was signed at 40M for 4, same as Renteria, same as was offered to Damon. Maybe there is new club policy with a 10M per year limit on per player payrolls now

I think you can definitely have a playoff calibre team without any one player making over 10M a year, but you really need to mimic what the Braves have done and develop (and retain) young talent in the farm leagues...

Maybe it's like the Patriots that don't have any superstars ('cept Brady).... Lawyer Malloy got too expensive, the pats let him walk.. Ty Law got expensive, they let him walk...

Maybe it's just a change in team philosophy (not overpaying for players, but developing cheaper alternatives), but without knowledge of the inner workings of the Red Sox baseball operation department, we can only guess...

Brilliant !! I think you've figured out the new red sox hiring system !!

No player will be signed for more then 10M unless he's a one the elite players in the game (like Schilling)...

Now it makes sense now... the sox do have a plan... thanks

Sucked. The good thing is that we found many stars like Derek Lee, Beckett, Burnett, etc.

Look at it this way: from now on, any time you see a replay of Jonny Damon getting his face caved in by Damian Jackson, it'll be as funny to you as it has always been to the rest of us.

And how many of those letters are from you ?

And what's with all the Star Wars :ghey:ness on that page?

"I'm so distraut after hearing the news of Johnny Damon going to the Yankees, I don't know what to think. Until now the Red Sox/Yankees and Star Wars comparisons have always been thin, but when I read the news I felt like Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode 4 when Alderaan was destroyed."

"If the Yankees are the evil empire, and the Red Sox are the jedi, undoubtedly Johnny Damon is Anikin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader. The only quetion left is who is Luke?"

Well it looks like I'm not missing out on much.

And it looks like Water-S is in a bad mood after hearing the news

"I hope Damon's arm comes flying off while he is trying to make a throw home and his hand and arm are still attached to the ball as it weekly lands in front of A-Rods foot and then A-Rod vomits and passes out and Joe Torre has to come out and give mouth to mouth to A-Rods bloated purple lips ... That would ease the pain of this trade"

WTF!!

i was on hold on a local sports radio show when this came out;

Cubs offer Prior for Tejada.

No., please don't do it. That's all I got to say. ESPNews reported it, and the polls showed that, other than Chicago, the entire nation takes it as a no-brainer. I myself would hate this trade. Now, the Cubs also offered 3 top prospects and cash, which would be fine for me. That would probably not get it done.

Elrod. I read he's was dressed as Santa on Wed.

I've never called a sports talk radio show but I did call a radio show on a sports channel. They were taking about the Archie comics and I had to chime in.
