Mucho props for 27. It's just so ironic for this particular thread that its the Heat and Bulls. It's been rivalry number one around here.
On a side note, I wonder how Riley felt being part of the 33 win streak and this one. FWIW, he played just about as much for this one as the one with the Lakers, lol.

I love how the Bulls fans chime in when they beat the heat but disappear for the rest of the season.
Im sure that any team, coach, fan, investor would kill to have a 27-1 record out of 28 games. Of course there are fans who hate just to give them something to do but that how it is.
Either way our fight isn't against the Bulls, its the Celtics. apparently they can't shut the f*&k up? just like Pat Riley said.
Besides, now they want to play mind games and get us in the first round. Well bring it.

Love Riley, always. His hatred for the Celtics was born out here in LA, but I'm glad to see it still festering quite nicely over there with the Heat. He always steps up for his players, be it Magic, Ewing, or Bron....
Doc can STFU too while they're at it....

Doc has a little bit more class than the organization does. Just like Ray Allen did. I give some type of respect him, but for the organization, they have always something to bitch about.

Maybe I just don't like any Celtics, lol.
It'll be interesting to see Shaq get his jersey retired tomorrow at Staples....his previous beef with Kobe, his current beef with Dwight, and of course, the game being against Dallas for the final playoff spot will make it a pretty intense affair on many levels.
Good ol' 11 rings (PJax) is gonna intro Shaq.

I was going to state that it's because they lead the division but Denver IS ahead and not a division leader. Honestly, don't know. Memphis and Denver s/b tied for fourth.

Home court is still decided by the overall record, so in the 4/5 matchup, it really makes no difference if the Clips are the #4 seed, because if Memphis has a better record than the Clips, they'll still start the playoff in Memphis.
Another weird rule is that tiebreakers go to division winners prior to head-to-head record. Even though the Nuggets won the regular season series against the Clips, if they're tied at the end of the regular season, I think the Clips would be seeded ahead of the Nuggets.

I just don't know why he wanted to keep playing. I know that he feels like this game is crucial for the playoffs but he has to think long term. Playing on top of an injury only makes it worse (obviously). At least sit out for a few but he didn't even do that. I'm proud of what Kobe did but I feel like he brought that upon himself.

Its just sad to see though I really hope this isn't the end for him. How long do these injuries take to heal?? If anyone can heal fast it is kobe, but fast will still be a long time.
Whats the lakers or even the nba without him

who knows, this is Kobe we are talking about. One thing is for sure he won't pull a derrick rose(not to be bad about the guy) Once he is healthy he will come back on the floor. But i have a feeling he won't retire until he gets his 6th ring or bust.

This has been an injury riddled season for the Lakers every starter has been injured at some point in the season then also Blake and Hill. It's a terrible injury Kobe suffered but as many have said already if anyone can make a comeback at that age and be the player he was Kobe can.

GARY VITTI
Q: Opening statement:
Vitti: Obviously when something like this happens, everybody wants to know why. And there’s not always a reason why. If you look at our season, it’s been a nightmare. We had a player come in with a surgery which was Dwight Howard, then we had Steve Nash break his leg, then we had Steve Blake have an abdominal surgery, then Jordan Hill with hip surgery, then we had Metta World Peace with a knee surgery. We also had Dwight with a labrum (tear) in his shoulder. Antawn Jamison will have surgery after the season on his wrist. When you try to look at the ‘why’s,’ it’s bad luck. If we’re going to look at why these guys are getting injured, then we have to look at why the years we had seven or eight guys playing 82 games. Why? Some of it is just bad luck.
The stuff out there with Kobe playing 48 minutes … if you want to say it’s 48 minutes, it has more to do with every minute you’re on the court, gives you an opportunity of being injured. You can’t be injured if you’re on the bench. If that’s your argument, I can see that. The odds increase with time on the floor. You can step on somebody’s foot, you can get yourself in a bad position and get injured. To say he was injured because he played 48 minutes the last however many games is a stretch. Lots of guys rupture their Achilles tendons and don’t play 48 minutes. To make that correlation isn’t fair. We’ve just had a very bad luck season, but we’re not done. Kobe showed some tremendous guts out there hitting the two free throws that kept us in the game, and eventually we won the game. The kid went up there with a torn Achilles tendon and buried two free throws. I think it’s a big inspiration to our players and we’re ready to play the next two games.
Q: On if he’ll be back by the beginning of the next season:
Vitti: That’s the plan. (Timetable recovery they said is six to nine months).
Q: On the severity of the injury:
Vitti: There are no good Achilles tendon ruptures. Third-degree rupture. It’s gone. It has to be sewn back together.
Q: On the next steps after surgery:
Vitti: He’ll be immobilized for quite awhile – a month or more. Then like anything else, he’ll start working on strength and range of motion. This isn’t something you want to speed up or accelerate. You don’t want to lengthen the tendon too soon because then that destroys the repair. It’s a very delicate process of getting the strength and length back into the tendon without overloading it too soon.
Q: On what makes him believe Kobe can win this battle:
Vitti: I said to him last night this is just another challenge in your life. The game of basketball comes too easy for you, so you need these things. The best thing you can do for us, as media, is say things like: ‘He can’t do it.’ That will force him to do it. He’s already taken the challenge. He’s already made the decision today to have the surgery. For us, it’s trying to keep him down and trying to slow him down.
Q: On if there’s anybody that could talk Kobe out of not playing:
Vitti: No, maybe his kids. Maybe his children

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, who injured his left Achilles tendon late in the fourth quarter of last night’s 118-116 victory over Golden State, had an MRI exam this morning which confirmed a torn Achilles tendon.
After confirmation of the injury, Bryant elected to have surgery to repair the torn left Achilles tendon. The successful surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Stephen Lombardo of the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Group. Recovery time is expected to be a minimum of six to nine months.
The NBA’s fourth all-time leading scorer, Bryant currently ranks third in the NBA in scoring this season, averaging 27.3 points, to go along with 5.6 rebounds, a team-high 6.0 assists, 1.36 steals and 38.6 minutes in 78 games this season.

The Lakers are going to rely strongly on each other on these last 2 games, which are against the Spurs & the Rockets. Because the Jazz are only 1 game behind and they go against Memphis & Minnesota.
Lakers appear to have home court advantage, though.

Curious myself. When they beat the Kings, all the news articles said they had been 2 men down (Jackson being released, Diaw out for 2-4 weeks) & were going to shake off the losing the 2.
I won't be surprised if he does rest them, though. The Lakers aren't their first round opponents, so they won't be seeing them again for a while. Parker's first game back was the Kings game as well, so they may have him sit to relax, or maybe he plays to get back into shape for the playoffs.
