So, like...what exactly is the problem with the Lakers? Too many main chefs in the kitchen?

From what I've seen their defense totally sucks. Just do a simple screen and you will pretty much throw off half of the Lakers team into confusion.
Also on offense, they don't move around at all. Most of them either stand behind the parameter and wait for the ball or just lolly gag somewhere else and wait for the ball (ESEPCIALLY PAU!!!). This is the reason why they have so many turnovers when the person with the ball needs to pass in a double team. No one runs around to get open to accept the pass.

Im actually surprised that the one problem that hasn't been discussed was that Jim Buss needs to step down. He was the one to ignored all of the advice his advisers gave him and went with D'Antoni. D'Antoni is not championship coach by all means. He doesn't change up his style, he doesn't believe defense is the key, and still hasn't won a championship. Will he ever win a championship, at this rate? i don't think so.

I'm Down Right Fierce!
^ I might be in the minority here, but honestly I think Kobe is the problem. When you're putting up 25+ shots a game, with a shooting percent under 40%, it takes alot out of your team, especially if they're an older team.
I can't recall which game it was... might've been the Raptors game, but I remember in the after game press conference, Kobe said something to the effect of "My teammates need to help me get more shots." Mind you, this was after he took close to thirty shots!
Don't get me wrong its not all on Kobe:
1. D12 is a shell of his former self (trust me I know... I traded Anthony Davis for him, and D12 is killing me in my fantasy league);
2. MWP is being stupid and trying to do ridiculous guard moves (dribbling/crossing over);
3. Pau is soft.
4. Bench full of scrubs.. good god the Lakers bench is effing terrible... worse than D league teams.
But maybe I just expect more from Kobe, who was always willing to do anything to win, even change his game. If Kobe could play off the ball a bit more, I think it'd help this team alot. As it is now, its either Lakers play 4v5 offense with Nash initiating, and Kobe sits in the corner OR go to Kobe for ISO Kobe.
But who knows... Maybe Kobe's just gotten too old. Maybe he's just become that old dog, that just won't learn new tricks. /rant off.

So, is it fair to say that Dwightmare is WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS!??!?
Or just that the system sucks and he is not who we think he was and he was an idiot and should've asked to go to Chicago?

CP3 trade is still echoing folks. Not blaming anyone but the small market wusses that cried foul that the Lakers were getting a young, MVP-candidate, point-guard AND getting rid of Pau and Lamar, the 2 deadweights and salary suckers. David Stern, Jordan, Dan Gilbert, et al. are the culprits here, not Jim, Mitch, Jerry, Jeannie, etc.
At this point, I'd look to trade Dwight. Pau is an expiring contract next year, which would be gold. I wouldn't trade him now, where they don't have leverage.

I pray Cuban is keeping some sort of eye on D12's current performance because so far, I've regretted hoping he comes to Dallas next year. I don't think he'll click well with Dirk if he & Pau are having placement issues when on the court together.
Feel bad for Nash, though.

The NBA should do the right thing and force the Utah Jazz to give back the name to New Orleans.

They probably picked worse case scenario team name. Nobody will sign with the "pelicans" they could've had crocodiles or something or hillbillies anything is better than pelicans

Looks like that first pic may not be the actual logo, although it's not far off.

Well....today's Knicks loss pretty much negates the win in Boston on Thursday. Very disheartening to lose to a meh team by such a large margin.

One thing confuses me in Basketball.
Why do the players always argue with the ref after a call? I see Kobe do it all the time and just now with Westbrook getting a technical cause he thought he got fouled. I mean the call (or lack of) has passed. The ref is not gonna over turn it if they're not looking at the replay. Just suck it up and drive on. I don't know why players do this. Even if the ref finally realizes he made the wrong call, it's too late to reverse it.
Is it a mind game thing that the players need to put into the ref?

One of the reasons you always see Kobe talk to the refs is because he's a team captain and its common for team captains to talk to the refs about not only concerns about his own calls but other calls that the refs are making on his teamates. Even though the refs don't overturn calls they do sometimes make "makeup calls" aka cosmetic calls where they know that they made a "bad call" but they find a way to compensate for that mistake by making it up on the other side. Another reason that players talk to the ref to tell them what to look for as the game goes on if an opposing player is consistently doing something to them. Then there are the times when games aren't called on both sides consistently one team is getting ticky tack fouls called on them and the other is getting away with murder. Overall your right there are a lot of complainers in the NBA it might be human nature because they all think they right.
I think the guys that stand around with their arms in the air instead of getting back on D, or start shouting at the refs, are doing themselves a disservice. It's an emotional game, so Kobe does this a lot as well, but yes, this really doesn't do any good.

I think you're right. The smart players at least, converse with the refs and let them know why or why not the call was right. Or just calmly tell them that they were hit or something, but they understand that they'll "get it right" the next time.

FWIW, if anyone here plays in a rec league and intramural league, you should have conversations with the refs. You aren't negotiating a current call, you are always negotiating upcoming calls or the rest of the game.
Heck, even in pickup games, people are always negotiating each other's calls. I agree that the people that complain just to complain are doing themselves a disservice. But if someone has a legit concern, they should speak up, since reffing the game seems to be more of an art as opposed to science.

If the Lakers have really turned the corner, the may make it to the the playoffs and I'm sure not even OKC would want to face a 'hot' Laker team w/ momentum on the first round. Where the Lakers end up will determine who the top seed in the west will be.

Knicks lost to the Wizards. I may have to approach this Knicks team the Stephen A Smith does: with very guarded optimism.
