NBA: 2009 Playoffs Thread

Thought I'd start one since nobody has taken the initiative yet...

Some great games to end the season last night. Now they say KG could miss the entire playoffs

My predictions for first round:

East:
Cavs > Pistons
Celtics > Bulls
Magic > 76ers
Hawks > Heat

West:
Lakers > Jazz
Nuggets > Hornets
Mavs > Spurs
Blazers > Rockets

Sucks that we lost KG, but Big Baby and Powe have been stepping up lately, hopefully it holds up...

East:
Cavs > Pistons
Celtics > Bulls
Magic > 76ers
Heat > Hawks

West:
Lakers > Jazz
Nuggets > Hornets
Spurs > Mavericks
Blazers > Rockets

Sure it will. They can't beat Orlando and Cleveland without him. Not so sure about Atlanta either.

IMO, its Lebron time. With a strong supporting cast he is unstoppable.

I don't know if I mentioned it here or on the Lakers forum, but the Celtics burned through their starters minutes since the beginning of the season. It was a little too intense, and that was gonna manifest itself later in the season.

Celtics can beat the Bulls, but after that its a toss up.

Even with the 1 seed, the Lakers drew the potentially toughest or at least most physical draw.

Utah first, then Portland/Houston, then Denver/SA/NO/Dallas. Still there is a lot that could happen in those lower seeds in the west. Portland and Dallas are peaking at the right time.

Lakers will win it ultimately. Lebron is great, but Cleveland's game as a whole isn't as dynamic or as well developed as this current Lakers.

I think they can beat Orlando and they have a chance against Cleveland, slim, but still a chance... Rondo, Allen, and Pierce are still a strong core...

anyways, we might have Scalabrine come back and fill in for KG!

I am so damn excited for the playoffs to start this weekend!!! Picked up my tickets at the game last night, they are probably my most valued peice of personal property right now. If a fire broke out in my home, I would bail out the window with my dog under one arm and the playoff tickets under my other arm! If both the Blazers and Lakers win in the first round, we will meet up in round two, which would make for some very exciting basketball.

I hate how the NBA doesn't re-seed after rounds are completed. In the NHL, the higher seed always get the lower seed in the next round.

IMO, that's the WCF for the next 4-5 years. If I'm going to be honest, Portland is the team that the Lakers most respect at this point. Lemme just say that I'm glad the Lakers have home court.

East:

Cavs over Pistons
Celtics over Bulls
Magic over 76ers
Heat over Hawks

West:

Lakers over Jazz
Nuggets over Hornets
Spurs over Mavs
Blazers over Rockets

I had to pick one upset for each conference. I think with Yao not 100% there's a potential upset.

finally the real season thread

Round 1:
East:
Cavs over Pistons in 5
Bulls over Celtics in 7
Magic over 76ers in 6
Hawks over Heat in 7

West:
Lakers over Jazz in 5
Hornets over Nuggets in 7
Mavericks over Spurs in 6
Blazers over Rockets in 6

Round 2:
East:
Cavs over Hawks in 6
Magic over Bulls in 5

West:
Lakers over Blazers in 6
Hornets over Mavericks in 7

ECF:
Magic over Cavs in 7 - yes i know i'll get shit for this, but it's my gut feeling and i think if they play lebron hard with hedo, lewis, and pietris, they might get somewhere. plus, the have this guy named Dwight Howard

Lakers over Hornets in 6 - fucking horrible matchup for us, the Hornets are hungry, but i know we can come through.

FINALS:
Lakers over Magic in 6 - Dwight will show up our interior, but look for mbenga to get some minutes to toughen dwight and rough him up. horrible stretch for the games 3, 4, 5 all in orlando, because if we don't win one there, it'll be a 7th and anyones game, and i do not want that at all

my picks:
East:
Cavs over Pistons
Celtics over Bulls
Magic over 76ers
Heat over Hawks

West:
Lakers over Jazz
Hornets over Nuggets
Spurs over Mavs
Blazers over Rockets

I think the west is really interesting, cause besides the lakers, almost none of them would be a very big upset. I could even see the laker series going 6 or 7 games, as the Jazz are always pretty tough at home. I think the Blazers will have a tough time w/ the rockets. w/ artest and battier probably spending time on roy, and yao in the middle, I think they could have trouble getting going. I don't know why I chose the hornets over the nuggets, but I think the nuggs might have trouble keeping up w/ paul and west. I think it really depends if chandler is healthy or not.

This year seems like all the matchups should be pretty competitive. I'd almost be surprised if any of the series ended in a sweep.

Anyone else really feel like the NBA is pushing for a Kobe, Lebron showdown in the finals? Im not saying that the reffs are going to throw games like Tim Donaghy did in that Sac series....but still that will always be a thought in the back of my mind, just like steroids is in the mind of hard core MLB fans.

Its 12:30 Oregon time, which meens I am at 7 hours and counting until tipoff in Portland. I have not been this excited for a game in many years. Dad and I, who I spilt my season tickets with, have not been to a playoff game together for 16 years, so it will be a night to remember

Rose AND rondo were really impressive. Legendary, competitive performance by Rose, and this kid is rook! You Bulls fans should be real happy with him.

Still I don't think its over by any means....

Hmm. Thought there would be more posts. Really shocking with both Boston and Orlando losing at home. Plus we got blown the fuck out. The West is all over the place too.

Can't vote against Da Bulls...but, honestly, I think it will come down to either the Magic, Cavs or Lakers. Toss up.

^^I agree. Dallas is peaking at the right time. By contrast, no Ginobili, and no inside presence other than Timmay, spells disaster.

Upsets are fun to watch.... as a bystander.

The Magic's fatal flaw is that they have no finishers. Dwight isn't what I'd consider a finisher. Not enough post moves, and a terrible FT shooter.

Was kinda hoping CP3 would upset the Thuggets, but they are playing well.

Great game tonight for both Bulls and Celtics. Ben Gordon was definitely on fire. Celtics fans we will see you for game 3 at the UC Thursday. Looks like the Spurs will even things up with the Mavs tonight.

Should be interesting tonight: Utard is supposed to get "nasty" with the Lakers. It'll likely be a better game.
