Just read that the ChiSox have apparently traded Linebrink to the Braves.

It never makes sense to me, why blow all this money on Werth? They aren't going to win even with him, they need to develop they very talented youth first, then sign that veteran than can put them at the chance of contending. They blew there load too quickly with this deal.

Other than the money, I really don't understand any reason why Werth would go from a championship caliber team to a team that has a lot of work to do to get to the level of the Phillies? Maybe he figures that he already won a WS and he's getting older and why not go where the money is.. I'd probably make the same decision too.
Edit: I just read that Werth recently hired Scott Boras as his agent..enough said.
From the Washington Post:
"About the same time I hired Scott was about the same time we started talking about the Nationals and possible suitors," Werth said. "Obviously, the Phillies had opportunities to sign me long-term, and when that didn't look like that was going to happen, it was about the same time I hired Scott. So right off the bat we were talking about possible suitors for me through free agency, and the Nationals were a team that was at the top of the list because Scott had a relationship with the Lerner family and the organization. He knew how competitive they were and where they were going. He was able to kind of fill me in on what they were all about. They were there from the beginning, I'd say."

Supposedly they already have a deal worked out for Gonzo, won't be announced til opening day for luxury tax reasons, I don't know the exact reasoning. They did this last year with Beckett...

By waiting until after opening day to officially ink Gonzalez to a new contract, the deal will not impact the 2011 payroll, saving Boston money on the luxury tax.
Several high-paid Sox players will come off of the books after 2011, including David Ortiz, J.D. Drew, Marco Scutaro, and Mike Cameron.
The Gonzo deal will be for around 7 years, $154M.

Mind you with the Heat, Fins, UM getting a new coach, and the Marlins not making major moves, sports radio hosts are actually talking about and are still flabbergasted by the Werth signing. What were they thinking? Is he werth it?

ChiSox Sign Konerko to 3-Year Deal...

Tigers got Victor Martinez as their DH/part time catcher. They alos got Benoit from TB to be their 8th inning setup guy. Phil Coke will go to the rotation.
I'm hoping they sign Magglio Ordonez back, as his bat is at least consistent.
Its a looooooong shot, but they have the $$ for Crawford, but he probably wants to stay somewhere warm.
I've been hearing that if the Yankees land Crawford they'd be looking to trade Granderson, and Detroit would take him back in a heartbeat. Austin Jackson in center, Granderson in left, and Magglio/Ryan Raburn in right sounds like a decent defense (right field would be bad, but offense makes up for it), and their 1-5 hitters would be really solid.

^ Haven't seen you post in a long time...good to see you're still around
As much as I like Harang as a person, how he got anything more than a minor-league deal is beyond me. I mean...did SD not see what he did the past few years!?!
I still can't get over how horrible this signing was Not that I'll ever care what the Nats do, but still...looks like something that d-bag Jim Bowden would've done

And rumor is Crawford is the "plan b" for not signing Lee OR if Pettite decides to retire.

Where did he go?
They saw it, hence the huge pay cut. At $3.5-4M per, it's not much of a gamble. The Reds paid him $12.5 and $14M the last two years.
He's a hometown boy and they're hoping he can revert back to '05-07 form. It helps that he's a fly ball pitcher in that monstrous ballpark in SD. He should be productive as an inning eater and can get 7-8K's/9.
