Do people really think Milwaukee is now a favorite to win the Central? That's what I've been reading all over, but I just don't see it yet

Maybe I'm just biased

Milwaukee made huuuge improvements to their rotation w/Greinke and Marcum, but they finished way back last year and will still have to contend with STL & CIN. Certainly, they are in the conversation now, but marking them as favorites is a bit much.

It's interesting that the Brewers are using the same formula as the Cardinals in building around 2SP's, a first baseman and a LF.

This is the same guy hit had a monster year before Seattle signed him, then sucked ass until 2010, when he was up for his next contract.

That said, he did hit .321 with 28 homers and 102 RBIs, all while being one of the best defensive third basemen in the game.

He is very good defensively, but he's also 32 when the season starts.

I remember what happened to Beltre after the Mariners signed him to that huge contract. He's only good when motivated and it wont be another contract year until 2016.

Upside is Arlington is a great hitters park.

Forgot about Fredi.

Seems like everyone is getting overpaid this off-season.
Uggla is now officially the highest paid 2B EVAR!

Congrats to Roberto Alomar & Bert Blyleven

Roberto Alomar, a 12-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winning second baseman, and Bert Blyleven, a 287-game winning pitcher who ranks fifth on the all-time strikeout list, were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in balloting verified by Ernst & Young.

Alomar, who was in his second year on the ballot, received 523 votes, the third highest total in history, for a 90-percent plurality. He was the 26th player to reach the 90-percent level in BBWAA elections. Blyleven, who was in his 14th and next to last year of eligibility, was named on 463 ballots for 79.7 percent.

Alomar batted .300 with a .371 on-base average and a .443 slugging percentage over a 17-season career with the San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks. The switch hitter totaled 2,724 hits, 1,508 runs, 504 doubles, 80 triples, 210 home runs, 1,134 runs batted in and 474 stolen bases. Alomar, whose father and brother, both named Sandy, played in the majors, was on Toronto’s World Series champions of 1992 and ’93, was the Most Valuable Player of the 1992 American League Championship Series and MVP of the 1998 All-Star Game at Coors Field in Denver.

Blyleven pitched in 22 seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians and California Angels and compiled a 287-250 record with a 3.31 ERA, 242 complete games, 60 shutouts and 3,701 strikeouts in 4,969 1/3 innings. The righthander pitched a no-hitter on Sept. 22, 1977 for the Rangers against the Angels and shares the AL single-game record for the longest one-hit complete game of 10 innings June 21, 1976. He, too, was a key part of two World Series champions, the 1979 Pirates and the 1987 Twins.
Larkin and Raines had made it too.

HOF Voting:

It's interesting that McGwire got less votes this year than he did the last 4.

I hate Roberto Alomar. He spits in an umps face during a game and they let him in the hall?

Really happy for Blyleven...I think he earned it. Can't really argue with Alomar's stats although we all know he isn't a class act.

I do see Larkin getting in like he deserves, and I hope Raines does to. If you look at his stuff he deserves it.

Got it on second ballot, not first as he should have w/o spitting incident. Plus no one really knows what Hirshbeck said to him during that tussle.

Lotta assholes in the HOF. Has nothing to do with their ability to play the game.
Alomar should've made it in on the first ballot, but the voters penalized him 1-yr for that incident.

I heard he called him a cocksucker.

Which is probably because Alomor was known to be gay. The rumor is he was traded to the Mets for almost nothing because his man love with Brady Anderson wasn't working out (note that they followed eachother from Baltimore to the Indians). He demanded a trade and the Mets took advantage. Surely you guys remember that trade, it was a joke. The Mets gave up Matt Lawton, Alex Escobar, Jerrod Riggan, Billy Traber, and Earl Snyder for the best second baseman on the planet.

And I'm sure the fact that Alomar didn't do shit when he got to the Mets doesn't have anything to do with your hate towards him.

at all the Alomar talk. I thought Hirschbeck called him a greasy wetback.

Seriously I think Pete Rose can't get in because even though he admitted the truth the commissioner never reinstated his status. I think that will be posthumous IMO. He did too many douchey things like setting up signing shows minutes from the HOF ceremony to piss off baseball.

BTW, Marlins president, David Sampson was on the radio last night and a fan asked him how he feels about improving the Braves roster.
