This has been a really exciting and surprising offseason so far...and to think the winter GM meeting's are not till next week..........expect Zito and any other top free-agent to be signed at those meetings.

Arbitration deadline was Friday, winter meetings start Monday... Looks like it'll get a whole lot more interesting this week...
The Dodges offered Arbitration to Julio Lugo. If Boston signs the free agent shortstop, it would relinquish its first-round draft pick next June to Los Angeles I know that Theo Epstein has a man crush on Lugo, so it'll be interesting to see if he's willing to give up a 1st round pick for lugo...
Am, I the only one that thinks J.D. Drew sucks ?? The Sox offered 10M for 4 years to Johhny Damon last year, but are willing to pay 14M for as many years for Drew. Drew has missed almost as many games as Trot Nixon (who the sox didn't offer arbitration too).

All signs continue to point to the Red Sox signing Drew, possibly as soon as Monday, when the winter meetings begin. By all indications, the Sox may be close to a deal with Drew that pays him $14 million per season, with a duration of either four ($56 million total) or five ($70 million total) years (the fifth year could also be an option year). Drew had 100 RBIs, 89 walks, 34 doubles, and a .393 OBP for the Dodgers last season. The Orioles and Giants may be willing to make a move on Drew if the Red Sox don't.

With Alfonso Soriano's recent signing (is the Cubs GM on drugs ??), Manny's remaining contract looks like a relative bargain.

I love it when Boston makes a move like that
Mr. never played a full season or ever made an allstar game must have Boras brainwashing Epstein with his Powerpoint presentations.
NO way is he worth what he's gonna get.
And I'd love to see Manny get traded too, just so we can just intentionally walk Papi every time

As for pitching, Williams is on a wait-and-see approach which is kinda surprising seeing how he has been always so aggressive in the past. Then again, this year's market is kinda stupid...His stance is that he's dangling Beurhle, Vazquez, or Garcia if the right deal comes along for a young pitcher (i.e. Santana from the Angels)--otherwise, he'll stand pat and start McCarthy in the minors.
But, you never know, he went out of nowhere last year and brought in Thome. So...I would not be surprised if he pulls a jaw-dropper. Other rumors appear that he is interested in Vernon Wells of the Jays!

Bonehead move by the White Sox. Now we need a good quality pitcher to replace him.
I wish the A-Rod for Garcia and another player would've been better. What's
Kenny Williams doing??? I wish he could've brought Rowand back. I miss his diving catches and I don't give a crap attitude when he played for the White Sox.
Hate to say it, but the Cubs are doing better signings that the White Sox are doing. But, if it means a guaranteed trip to the World Series for the Cubs we shall see.

ChiSox GM not looking to good right now..Thomas leaves has monstrous year and Chicago doesnt even make playoffs and the offseason is just horrible...Maybe Wrigley has a chance this year, with the money they spent they better.

That being said, I'm guessing this is what Williams wanted to do when he hinted at replenishing his pitching corps from the system?
Now, as much as I love the Cubbies, their moves are nice but I don't know if it's enough to push them over the hump. I still don't like the Aramis I-like-to-jog signing. Soriano is nice but he strikes out an awful lot if he's to be a leadoff...DeRosa is a nice signing...but, he's not team-carrier. And Lilly...decent and serviceable pitcher, but nothing that scares another team IMO.
Don't forget that the ChiSox still have one of the best pitching staffs out there. They have the top 4 of the rotation returning with McCarthy slated to bottom out at #5...they should be fine. To me, it was their horrid late innings relief that blew it for them last year more than anything. Cotts and Politte were unreliable...if Guillen et al can straighten out the bullpen, I think they'll be contenders...
