I am so sick of this AL>NL crap.
rant/
I'm out tonight and the Yankees lost in the 9th, so me being a proud Met fan point out that the Mets are winning 10-1 in the 4th. So of course I get the whole "but they play in the NL" crap. Why? Pujols, Soriano, Beltran, Howard, Reyes, Utley, Cabrera, Berkman, Wright, Bay, Rollins, C. Lee (I count him because all his stats are from the NL). These are the top hitters in the game and easily compare to the likes of Ortiz, Manny, Jeter, Hafner, Crawford, Wells, Thome, Dye, and Vlad.
And looking at the numbers, the NL pitchers as a whole are putting up better stats than the AL pitchers. What is this great advantage that the AL has over than the AL, other than the fact that all the talent is concentrated into 5 or 6 teams in the AL and more spread out in the NL.
So you argue that the Mets wouldn't have the record they have if they had to play those teams, fine, but they would also be playing teams like the D'rays, KC, Cleveland, Seattle and B'more.

NL pitchers don't have the extra DH hitter to face so they're stats should be better.. I'm a NL guy (Pirates) but I think the AL is just stronger this year.. Just accept it and tell them you'll see them in the Playoffs.. If that's their only argument then you're in good shape..

yea, but when they are playing in the NL park, byebye DL. IMO the only team with a scary enough lineup for the DL to be a factor is the Yankees because they stick Abreu there once Sheff and Chop Sui come back, now that is a frightening lineup...

That may just answer your question about why AL>NL.

In the NL, the scary teams are...er, is NY. Followed distantly by the Dodgers, Cards ( ), and Padres...? Who else really has a good record? Everyone else is a mediocre team...
In the AL, you have the top 4 regularly playing each other and beating the snot out of each other and that does not include the BoSox, Angels, Athletics, and Blue Jays. Those teams offer comparably better competition than what the NL offers in the Fish, Phillies, Reds, and Padres...
I watch both Leagues and enjoy baseball as a whole (remember, I also happen to be one of those rare ones who cheer for the Cubs as well as the ChiSox)...but, the talent right now is in the AL overall.

Good point. Go down the NL teams and you see a lot of inconsistency. I'm an NL guy too and I like manufacturing runs and all that. In the East my Marlins could finish 2nd or an inconsistent Phillies. The Central has the Cards and Reds. Cards are inconsistent with crappy starting pitching this year and the Reds are choking. The Asstros are just that. The West has the Dodgers who won like 10 in a row and lost about the same. HUH???? The Padres will probably eek out if LA doesn't. The Mets are >>>>>> 2nd place NL team overall. I still give the Mets credit for being an overall top squad. If they were in the AL they'd still do very well.

Give the Mets some credit they have ran the East from day 1 which is hard to do these days take a division from day 1 all the way to the end. The Mets pitching staff is not any worse or better than what the top AL teams have. Their lineup is pretty decent too and manufacturer lots of runs. If the Mets of 06 were in the AL I think they still would be neck and neck with the Yanks. The Mets can play with Detroit, Chicago, Minn, Yanks, and Boston without too much of a problem. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell happened to Boston so quickly, it's no fun anymore.

Pavano is whining about shoulder pain now...

NEW YORK -- Carl Pavano is now complaining of shoulder pain, the latest in a series of ailments for the New York Yankees' $40 million pitcher.
Pavano is telling Yankees officials that his shoulder is now bothering him, in addition to his ribs, a source told SI.com. Pavano broke two ribs in an Aug. 15 car accident in West Palm Beach, Fla., but didn't reveal the accident or injuries to the team until nearly two weeks later, upsetting the Yankees. His new complaint is that his hurt ribs are causing him shoulder pain when he pitches.
Pavano revealed his new pain Wednesday, when he was examined in New York by team physician Stuart Hershon. The Yankees plan to talk further with Pavano, who hasn't pitched in the major leagues since June 2005, but there are no plans to use him for at least two weeks.
Pavano has complained of a variety of ailments this year, including a pain in the buttocks.

Geez this guy seems to be a real winner, he signed a big contract and played sick. He probably threw himself down the stairs to hurt his shoulder again. I really hope I don't see this fool ever in a Yankee uniform again. Buy the dumbass out and call it the day.

Anyone catch Letterman's quote?
CBS’ David Letterman: “Thanks to A-Rod, I’m no longer the most overpaid disappointment in New York City.’’

Personally, I think the fact that he was in an accident and risked his health by mot reporting it to the team should be grounds for them telling him to take a walk.

Hoping the Twin/Tigers come out cause the Yanks can beat them in Oct . 3-4-5-6 in the Chi order are pretty tough for the Yankee pitchers so hopefully we wont see em

Not the greatest but a pretty good #5 pitcher for the ChiSox...
