So true GO HAWKS
Nothing worse than having to watch the team that defeated yours keep playing. OTOH for the poor folks that live in Toronto it's a chance to see NHL caliber hockey instead of being blacked out from watching real teams play even while the leafs are not.

^ I think he's a decent coach...if anyone should get axed in Edmonton, it should be Lowe for his retarded signings and moves.
Game Time
Senior Moderator
And don't ask how I know. But, the evening before the game against the Kings (which was the game that eliminated the Oilers from the playoffs when they lost 2-1), Penner had a bunch of the boys over at his place...all night.
By AM, the cars didn't leave.
I dunno...what a person does in his off time is his business, but, if my playoff life counted on the next game, I would not have gone and whooped it up all night drinking.
Can someone tell Crosby it's not soccer?

Why the Red Wings Don't Fight
In Detroit, Dropping the Gloves Is Out, Speed and Finesse Are In; Don Cherry's Lament
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123975292278718827.html
The defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings have the highest winning percentage in the National Hockey League over five seasons -- but that's not the only thing that sets this team apart.
For a decade now, the Red Wings have had the fewest fights in the league. This season, their 11 fights would hardly constitute a single boxing match.
By comparison, the second-least pugnacious team is the Carolina Hurricanes, who have dropped the gloves more than twice as often. The Anaheim Ducks (no longer owned by Disney) rarely went a game this season without punching someone in the face -- amassing a league-high 82 fights, according to the Web site Hockeyfights.com.
The Red Wings' unusual lack of fighting and their dynastic success, have become object lessons for the NHL brass, which would prefer a league where brawling takes a back seat to puck handling, speed and clean hitting. Some fans and team executives worry the changes are taking the heart out of the game. "Nobody gets up to get a beer during a fight," says Don Cherry, an NHL commentator and fighting proponent.....

Burke Spam Calls Isles and Bolts...
From TSN...
I'm sure this is how the convo went:
"Hey, Snow...it's Burkie. I want your #1 pick. And tell everyone in the press that I called...important."
"Um."
"That's all. Kthxbye."

True to his word, it didn't take Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke long to reach out to both the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning to express his interest in trading up in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Sources say Burke has made contact with both clubs, formally acknowledging Toronto's keen interest in acquiring either the first or second pick in an effort to land London Knights forward John Tavares, who is heavily projected to go first overall. In the case of the Lightning, Burke contacted the club via Email.
Tuesday night's NHL Draft Lottery determined the Islanders claim ownership of the coveted first pick with Tampa Bay, Colorado, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Phoenix rounding out the top five selections.
If Burke intends on being as aggressive as he declared he would be during Tuesday's end of the season media conference in Toronto, sources say the Leafs' bombastic boss may have to orchestrate one or two side deals in order to build a package either New York or Tampa Bay would consider worthy.
Speculation suggests rookie defenceman Luke Schenn will have to be included in the discussions, which may ultimately deter Toronto from making a deal.
"Creating a hole while filling another doesn't make a lot of sense," said a source close to the Leafs.
The only thing certain is Burke stirred things up with his "in your face" approach on Tuesday, but the veteran manager knows actions speak louder than words, which is why immediate contact with at least the top two teams in the draft was made.

There are more Euros on that team than in the KHL...It's really too bad that the Sharks drew the Ducks because I would've enjoyed watching Anaheim crush the Wings from a physical perspective.
And yes, I hate your team.
