If you're a European player currently on the Lightning's roster, you may want to start looking for a new job.

Exactly what I was thinking about when I heard this news. Back then, a player will often find himself playing in the minors if a coach does not like him. Good luck using the same tactics with today's players.

Forgot ot mention this the other night. NBC's game call is fantastic. Can't remember the name of the guy calling it but he makes things exciting.

Bob Cole on the CBC

And having Pierre McGuire helps.

I heard on the local news report too that the viewership on NBC increased by 79% or something for game 5. I don't know what that translates to in terms of the Neilson rating.

btw can't wait for another exciting game tonight, but hopefully the pens will win in regular time so i can go to bed on time today

Melrose was and still is a one trick pony.
He had a decent team (w/ Gretz.) in '93...add to that some luck....and as a result, a finals appearance. (His luck ran out with McSorley).

He did nothing for the franchise after '93.

Melrose is a horrible choice in 2008.

The Pittsburgh papers don't seem to like NBC's overall presentation, they say there are too many unrelated plugs and promotions, and not enough replays among other things. I've never seen a CBC broadcast so I have no idea.

I was just talking about the commentating. I didn't pay too much attention to plugs and promotions.

CBC broadcasts are great, except for the Bob Cole game calling IMO. He gets a lot wrong and has no enthusiasm. Not sure exactly how long he's been calling hockey but he still can't seem to figure out when a ref calls a penalty, the team with the possession of the puck is NOT the team that will be penalized. I thought that would become obvious after 20-30 years of calling hockey.

Thankfully we have the benefit of being able to switch over to NBC.

I think its just his age starting to get the better of him, he was fine a few years ago but I've notice his quality in commentary drop off exponentially over the last few years. I don't think he had much more left in his career.

Mike 350z, you can catch the CBC call live streaming video online at www.cbc.ca I usually have to watch the first period on there while I'm in class.

I agree its age, but I'm pretty sure I've be complaining about him for quite a few years now.

Luckily yesterday on the Fan 590 Scott Moore hinted that this may be Cole's last finals. Jim Hughson FTW.

There not the only one's, I would enjoy it they would just shut the hell up and show the game. The two dicks they have doing intermission, GAWD, bullet to my head.

I've been spoiled by listening to Jim Hughson's play by play of Canuck games for the past 10+ years of radio/tv. He's the best in the business...him and Craig Simpson would have brought another level to this years stanley cup finals.
