Pens go down 3-0 in the first against the Gooins, then score 4 in the second to lead 4-3 and Malkin shits the bed and gives the game away, Pens lose 6-4, what a roller coaster

They are all off to a great start for now. Rantanen is living up to his contract so far.
And now we are back to reality. I know we are missing two of our 3 best players and two that make up the amazing top line but just the lack of proper hockey being played by the Avs is just atrocious. Dzone turnovers happening at an alarming rate in last night game I ended up just turing it off after the second period.

Trickle-effect of losing 2 elite players, dude. Everyone else moves up to a slot or role that they are not as suited for...hockey is all about a role a player has and well, you can't just replace Rantanen and Gabe that easily. Your team is fine.

My squad? They have issues. Ugh @ Hawks...

Pens go down 3-0 to the Isles, then come back and score 4 in a row to break the Isles 10 game win streak

Hawks? Um. Yeah. Fire a HoF legend and stick a kid in to coach. Let's see how Toews, Kane, Seabrook, and Keith respond. Yup.

Fair enough. If Makar can pull out a few more games like the one Saturday night it will help make up for their absense.

Donskoi looks good with Nate right now too. So, I think the depth will hold.

Don Cherry fired from HNIC.

Frankly, it's about time...his comments about European players and headshots/goonery is dated and remnants of a past era that is no longer accepted in the NHL: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...-night-canada/

FWIW, I think it was the way he said it that ended it for him.

I GET what he was saying. But, when he said "You people", it was over. He could've made it generic and said ANYONE who does not wear a poppy during the Memorial/Remembrance Day weekend is not cool. But, he had to single out a demographic which in this day and age is a no-no. FWIW, I see equally across the board of those who do not wear a poppy. It's not just people new to a country.

No argument here, I agree that it was the way that he said it, however I'm surprised he wasn't given an opportunity to apologize or retract.

And well, he's going with the guns blazing. He refuses to ease up his statement. This is where he's an idiot.

I mayyyyy get -ed for this but I think Brian Burke would make a decent CC replacement for Cherry if they keep that segment for HNIC.

I do really like how that line looks. If MacKinnon can keep putting up points with Donskoi and Calvert on his wings just imagine what you can do with using Landeskog and Rantanen when they come back on another line or even split up entirely. MacKinnon is starting to remind me more and more of how Crosby takes 3rd and 4th line wingers and makes them look like 1st and 2nd line wingers.

Also, big props to rookie Adam Werner that stepped in 31seconds into the game after Pavel Francouz got flattened by Scheifele and shutting out the Jets for his first ever NHL game action. Still think Scheifele deserved more than a 2min penalty he didn't even try to stop at all. You have to be aware of the crease when going full steam ahead.

This. Those two words don't work anymore without pretty much guaranteeing you trouble. I don't disagree with what he said had he said it the way you describe.

I always enjoy listening to his take on things hockey related because it is just another hockey opinion. It doesn't mean he is always right though.

Was definitely surprised to hear he had been fired.

Rogers-Sportsnet Canada was in between a rock and a hard place. There was already alot of clamor for Cherry to go with some of his he-man ideas for hockey...headshots are also no longer how the League plays and frankly, while he could be patriotic about Canuckian players, it's ALL about international now. Some of the best players are not Canadian: Malkin, Kane, Ovie, Rantanen, Aho, Josi, Draisaitl, and etc. etc.

This "you people" line made it easy as the outrage was pretty high from reading the news and so, it gave Rogers/Sportsnet a way out from him.

Told you!

I picked up Donskoi on the waiver wire the other day and he rewards me with 3 points last night.

Yep, sadly it's looking that way. He's had the injury since the preseason and is so selfless that he's been playing through it since we had so many other injuries, sadly it looks like he'll be down 4-6 weeks

I will be honest I miss some of the late 1990s and early 2000s hockey. I believed it help stop some of the big risk hits on the star players because you paid a price for it. I don't really see anyone really paying a price for it like they once did if you went after the teams captains or star players. (For example the charging Francouz took last night Shiefle would have got destroyed at some point back then. That said in todays game of speed it is hard to waste a roster spot on someone to take care of that stuff for you. I feel you could still have parts of the old rough hockey without the headshots in the game.

I think few hockey fans who saw that era (me, it started in the 1980s) will say it was NOT entertaining. Holy cow was it mayhem and carnage. You have a player like Semenko climb onto the ice, you knew someone was in for it. Or Probert...one of THE first scary fighters who also had skill. Hawks vs. North Stars was always memorable for me...those two teams HATED each other. Wings too of course but Chicago had little to counter against Probie despite trying with Grimson and Peluso.

But, both legendary fighters also illustrate also the toll that era had on players (they are gone right?) and as a sport, hockey needed to evolve. Concussions used to be an injury no one "cared" about. Now? Big deals and rightfully so.

You are correct though, some of the policing in the sport should continue as a deterrent against plays. Cherry though, does not represent any of the hybrid and still well, is stuck in the 80s/90s.

The craziest part about Sid's injury is that he got injured in the preseason and has been averaging a point per game with a sports hernia.... Dude is unreal

Hockey players are the toughest athletes. Period.

Some of the injuries these guys play through in the playoffs are just WTFBBQ.

Well, time to see if Babcock is indeed the most overrated coach ever or he is as magical as some felt. Leafs are free-falling. And they have zero cap space for any major moves...so, fire Babs?
