Well, again...disagree with your original statement still. Team player does NOT necessarily equate to being a team LEADER. One could argue that a team leader MUST be a team player but a team player does not necessarily equal to being a great team leader.

If that were the case, why don't the Bruins give Shawn Thornton the C...? Or heck, let's see Chicago give Brandon Bollig that. These are two examples of good team PLAYERS. But, would they be great team leaders...ehhhh. Dunno.




So, back to Crosby...I think he's a team player. Don't think he's a selfish kinda of player. Now, if you're calling his leadership into question? Yeah, that's plausible...his lack of discipline at times in the playoffs has cost his team. And often, a team does follow their leader's lead.

Did the Pens lose something when they let Talbot go? It's arguable that he was the locker room gel and was a voice of reason for Sid who now, does not have that. Still, I don't think stripping him of the captaincy is in need.



Ovechkin? Yeah, get that C off of him. Selfish players are not captains.

 

Crosby is no doubt a team player. That is not in dispute.

Only the crazy think he is not.

However, is he Captain material? No.

Take the "C" away...then watch how great he really will become.

 

There were whispers that while Sid wore the "C" for Team Canada, it was really Serious who had the room...Babcock gave Sid the C because well, Sid's the face of the NHL and hockey Canada.

Nothing confirmed...just word on the street.





Regardless, I still think Sid is captain material. It's definitely debatable that he's not the BEST of the NHL captains...but, I'd still say he's the one to lead Pittsburgh. He just needs some help (i.e. better lieutenants).
