Got this from a friend...
Epic fucking fail
“However, the few bars and nightclubs in Qatar operate only in expensive hotels and clubs, much Distribution Company, the only importer and retailer for alcohol in Qatar. Under Qatar's Sharia, it is illegal to show alcohol or be drunk in public.”

"Each of the five stadiums will harness the power of the suns rays to provide a cool environment for players and fans by converting solar energy into electricity that will then be used to cool both fans and players at the stadiums. When games are not taking place, the solar installations at the stadia will export energy onto the power grid. During matches, the stadia will draw energy from the grid. This is the basis for the stadiums’ carbon-neutrality. Along with the stadiums, we plan to make the cooling technologies we’ve developed available to other countries in hot climates, so that they too can host major sporting events."

I can see announcing the 2018 games, but did they really have to pick the 2022 games already?

A better theory is that Blatter will be retired in 4 years, so he won't be able to pocket any bribes anymore. Hey, why stop at 2022? They should award 2026 as well.

Alcohol: Hassan Abdulla al Thawadi, chief executive of the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid, said the Muslim state would also permit alcohol consumption during the event. Specific fan-zones will be established where alcohol can be bought.[8][9]

It's going to be a clusterfuck of epic proportions.
I'd love to see the Arab world put on a half-decent show, but there are just way too many factors playing into this. Soccer is huge in the Middle East, but the drinking/hotties/fanzones culture is just not there. On top of that, having 2-3 million visitors showing up in a country of 1.5million people is probably going to overwhelm the state resources.

Played a pickup game with some old highschool teammates against the local Mexican guys..
We lost but had a great time just playing together again. Hopefully when we get back in rhythm we can give them a good rematch

Barca sells out?
Barcelona have ended their 111-year history of refusing commercial shirt sponsorship by signing a record £125m deal with the Qatar Foundation.
The Catalan giants have paid to carry the Unicef logo for the last five years and the children's charity will share shirt space with the new sponsors.
Barcelona have a sizeable debt but now claim to be "the undisputed brand leader in world football".
The deal will be worth £25m a year from next season through until 2016.
In July, an audit revealed Barcelona's debt to be £369.5m after a loss of more than £64.36m in the 2009/10 season.
The new sponsorship arrangement could free up some transfer funds for coach Pep Guardiola - who worked as an ambassador for Qatar's successful bid to host the 2022 World Cup.
The Qatar Foundation is a non-profit organisation concerned primarily with education projects in the Middle East.
It is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, the wife of the Emir, who was central to Qatar's final World Cup bid last week.
Senior club executives said the deal was a "remarkable milestone because it represents a record level of revenue for a football club and has more value still in the current economic climate".
Manchester United and Real Madrid both earn a little over £20m a year for their rights, while Bayern Munich make closer to £23m.
Marketing experts will seek to find a way for both logos to be displayed on the Barcelona shirts, although if that is not possible the Unicef name will take priority

Does this mean Barca is going the route of 'let's buy as many stars as possible'? I really hope not, because one of the things I love about them is how most of the team is home-grown.
It's going to be weird seeing anything other than Unicef on the shirts, though.

They were one of the few teams left that didn't have a sponsor on their shirt, and even though the Qatar Foundation's work seems similar to Unicef, it's going to be weird seeing another sponsor on their jerseys.
They definitely did need the money, though.

Woohoo, 2-0 up at the CWC. Pretty give and goal by Zanetti and Milito. Sneidjer out in the first minute though.

Fifa boss tells gay fans: 'Don't have sex at Qatar World Cup'
Fifa president Sepp Blatter today provoked calls for his resignation after joking that gay football fans should "refrain" from sex during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where homosexuality is illegal.
Asked about concerns over the treatment of gay fans at the 2022 tournament, Blatter appeared to laugh the question off, saying: "I would say they should refrain from any sexual activities."
Blatter and South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma, sitting alongside him at a press conference to discuss the legacy of the 2010 World Cup, both laughed awkwardly, as did several journalists present.
But the Fifa president's response and that of the assembled audience provoked anger from John Amaechi, the former NBA basketball star who revealed he was gay in 2007. He accused Blatter of "epic ignorance".
Meanwhile, campaign groups said he risked undermining work to combat homophobia in football and called on him to apologise immediately or stand down.

Sepp Blatter is an idiot. He not only needs to resign but also DIAF. He was obviously paid off by Qatar to host the cup.
This is the only good thing he has done:

Champions League Draw was earlier today:
AS Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
AC Milan v Tottenham Hotspur
Valencia v FC Schalke
Inter Milan v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Real Madrid
Arsenal v Barcelona
Marseille v Manchester United
Copenhagen v Chelsea
My early predictions. I think the toughest one for me to choose is Tot vs Milan...

So, apparently, Tevez has now withdrawn his request for a transfer, and will retain the captaincy.
No change in contract terms, either, so what the fuck was the point of all the drama over the last 10 days?

For Champions League, I'd go with
AS Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
AC Milan v Tottenham Hotspur
Valencia v FC Schalke
Inter Milan v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Real Madrid
Arsenal v Barcelona
Marseille v Manchester United
Copenhagen v Chelsea
Only difference with IMJ being Roma over Shakhtar Donetsk. I'd like for Spurs to pull it off against Milan, but they seem to be a year away from competing consistently at European level.
And I hope Lyon take pretty-boy Ronaldo out, but I don't realistically see that happening

Winter World Cup
FIFA president Sepp Blatter expects the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to be held in the winter to avoid the searing heat in the region in the summer.
Qatar won the right to host football's global showpiece last month despite temperatures in the Gulf emirate reaching 40 degrees Celsius in June and July when the tournament is traditionally staged.
Blatter went on record Friday to say that a switch to winter would make more sense, citing health concerns for players.
"I expect it to be in the winter because when you play football you must protect the main people, the players," he told gathered reporters in the Qatari capital Doha ahead of the Asian Cup, which starts later Friday.

Torres on his way to London for a medical, apparently, after Chelsea's 50m bid, from what I'm reading.
I don't mind this move at all, as it gives Liverpool some cash, and they can offload a player who hasn't been as good as he was in previous years, and has seemed very disinterested on the pitch. Hopefully Suarez and Carroll can form a decent strike force up front.
