hey, its fun that the rivalry is (almost) back on isn't it? I have pretty fond memories of the 80s. Its great to have the Celtics back, I hated feeling sorry for them.

But at the same time, the Lakers need to kick Boston's ass.

Even if one of them was that damn baby sky-hook that Magic hit in Game 6 in '87... and Bird missing that 3 from the corner... Dammit, now I'm steamed! Bring on Jack Nicholson & company!

Well, I'm not gonna rile ya up anymore. Its too bad they don't let the players rip into each other anymore. I remember watching Kurt Rambis just get clotheslined running full speed on a break by Kevin "Frankenstein" McHale. Punches were thrown, fistacuffs ensued. But after the dust settled they lined up, Rambis just got 2 free throws. No techs, flagrants or anything.

Good times....

Still gotta beat Detroit.. Relax it is 3-2 Detroit can come back..

Lakers already got Spurs on the ropes time to deliver the knock out punch. Also I feel sorry for the NBA when Bynum comes back next year...

Fisher
Kobe
Odom
Gasol
Bynum

Front court average height is like 6 11 on that roster. Odom is about 6 10 6 11 and bynum and pau are 7 foot 1.

Good luck. Perkins won't have a monster game like that again in this series I guarantee it. You guys barely won with Ray Allen and Perkins firing on all cylinders.... Not to mention some of your other players.

btw finals format is 2 games to whoever has homecourt and 3 games to the other team then two games at the homecourt team..

22. I never said they had been good recently. Just don't try to downplay winning 11 championships in 13 years, just because it was a long time ago and there were fewer teams in the league. If it was no big deal, how come the Lakers couldn't win any during that stretch? Give credit where credit is due; the Lakers have been much better lately, but the Celtics still have the edge in total championships, 16 to 14, and they were the mother of all dynasties back in the day.

Again 9 teams in total.. Now the nba has what 26? almost 3 times the amount....

yes they beat the Lakers but if you take out the Mikan championships and the russel champions lakers will have more..

Alright 16 > 14 Understandable... Make it 16 > 15 this year and 16 = 16 next year with bynum back (if no one has a freak accident of an injury or breaks the chemistry.)

You know whats sad about Boston.. They are screwed in 2 years? They will be tooo old to compete and they have no resources left because they traded a lot of away for KG.

I know, and I think that works to the advantage of the team with home court. For the other team to win all of their home games, they need to win three straight, which is a lot harder to do, plus one on the road. We shall see!

Ok, so then take out the Magic championships and the Shaq championships while you're at it. You can't count them that way dude!

And you say I'm getting ahead of myself because the Celts still need to win one more over Detroit... what are you doing counting the next 2 championships?

Edit: Yeah, what are the odds that anything could possibly go wrong with the chemistry on a team with Kobe on it?

Ya, that goes without saying. But historical significance is pretty compelling, especially if you were around to remember it, like I was.

You and I both know, the Lakers better kick some ass tonight.

They say the same thing about us. In fact, everyone says the same thing about us. Its part of being a Laker fan.

Its all good, I hope we can keep the atmosphere in here less intense than in the dedicated team forums. This is where I escape those obviously homerific sites.

No problem man! Reminds me of arguing this same shit back in high school... when it was the Celtics vs. the Lakers again! Somehow that makes me feel young and at the same time.

^^kinda agree with you there. I'm 32, and I really remember watching from about 8 years old, when I started playing ball.

However, I must say that family plays alot into what you remember. My whole family plays basketball and they were Laker fans, so I knew what was up pretty early on. I was pissed about the Lakers trading Norm Nixon too, I just didn't know why.

Detroit, but no disrespect to the Celtics whatsoever. Celtics have more talent, but something about a very experienced Detroit team vs. the somewhat young Lakers makes me think twice against them. That Detroit core has been there before.

The Celtics are pretty much in the same spot the Lakers are. Lots of talent, but most of the stars haven't been this far- Pau, Garnett, Odom, Ray, are learning on the fly. I'd take my chances that those guys make mistakes. I also think the Phil Jackson can make adjustments better than Doc Rivers can.

for the lakers. I think either team would be a very tough match up. I think either series would be very entertaining. Part of me wants to see a rematch of the lakers/celtics rivalry, another part of me wants the lakers to get a chance for revenge with the pistons for that 2004 season when they lost to detroit when they had kobe, shaq, malone, and payton.

as far as detroit's playoff experience, that didn't seem to help the spurs against the lakers very much

but the spurs' lack of athleticism and age were exposed against the lakers. and top of that, the lakers just played that well.

i wonder how much of an effect losing game 1 had on SA.

normally, you'd think a veteran team like that wouldn't be too fazed by it. but that was a huge game and lead to lose.

Some guys can't leave it on the floor. Plus, I think the Lakers and Spurs have shared many a series together, and won championships. Been there, done all that. Its a game in the end.
