Button's race wasn't great but wasn't bad either. He started 3rd, quickly got into 2nd at the start, then faded back to 10th (?) before working his way back to 6th.

Good thing is McLaren/Honda's reliability is getting better, power is also better, but they still fall off the pace at times which I'm guessing is more tire wear and chassis balance?

Most of what I've read is the drivers are not happy managing tires and fuel, it seems the chassis/motor is even more important than ever.

I agree with James Allison's assessment that the overall % factor of F1 success is 20% driver/40% chassis/40% motor.

James Allison says an F1 driver currently 20 percent of overall package

Also nice summaries of all the F1 WDC's here

https://www.formula1.com/en/champion...l-of-fame.html

As for the crash, majority of the blame is on Rosberg here, although a little is from the team and Hamilton.
Supposedly Rosberg's brake by wire system was failing or had failed the last lap.

Before hearing of the BBW failure on Rosberg, it looked like he just went really deep into that corner & forced Hamilton wide.

Rosberg lost braking performance, so his car was not optimal. Whether or no he could have avoided the crash, probably only he and his engineers know.

Mercedes to decide on team orders in the coming days
"I don't think it's really black and white. Nico was with a car that was handicapped, trying to brake late, and not on the line that was probably normal. And Lewis came from the outside. That's where the first contact was made. So what I'm seeing is it takes two to make contact.

"I don't want to attribute any blame because every time you watch the video and look at the onboards there is new information. I have my personal opinion. I'm not going to express it here, but as a matter of fact that needs to be avoided.

"Brakes were marginal. There wasn't a lot left. At the end of the second to last lap, Nico's brake-by-wire failed, so he had no electronic braking. It reduces the performance of the braking."

Wolff insisted that the incident will have no impact on the contract talks with Rosberg.

"No, nothing. The contract is a long-term decision and isn't influenced by a race incident."

Even with loss of braking, he turned in really late.

Oh yeah, no doubt.
I think Rosberg does dirty tactics as well as Hamilton, I don't care for either.

I find it hard to believe he didn't do that completely on purpose to try and get a DNF for both of them. If he knew his brakes were bad then he should have been braking early and just conceding to take second place and limp home. Instead he ended up breaking his car and finishing in 4th.

I read his brake problem surfaced at Turn 1, or 1 turn earlier than where the crash took place from Lewis' point of view. I don't think it was dirty, he is in front and has the right to protect his line. He didn't swerve, he just forced Lewis to take a different line. I'm glad to see Rosberg has grown a set personally.

I don't think Rosberg did it on purpose to get a DNF, I think he did it to push Hamilton wide or have him brake to maintain his lead.
Was it dirty racing, somewhat but also something many WDC's have done. His car's brakes were bad and he defended his inside line.

Also agree Rosberg has a pair now, especially after Spain, but it's probably time the Hamilton and Rosberg reach some accord.

It looks like they'll be teammates in the future and at the moment they have the best car by far.

Rosberg turned in late to defend his inside line, there is absolutely nothing in the rules that say you have to turn in at the apex.

Senna and Prost even had agreements that Senna broke (Portugal 1988 witnessed by Ron Dennis and Marlboro John Hogan), once that happened Prost never trusted Senna again.

Really excited about the prospect of RB restoring parts of the Osterrichring. For those who remember the original spectacular circuit, this is very good news.

At the Baltimore Grand Prix a few years ago, I saw up close Danica Patrick and Simona de Silvestro.
Patrick is as beautiful as she is in media, I'll have to find my pics and post later. She looked uncomfortable with all the fans and media surrounding her in the garage.
Some friends got a chance to talk to de Silvestro and said she was sooooo cool in person, not pretentious or having a attitude.

+1, I'm a little surprised as Kimi has done well this year staying out of trouble and earning alot of points.
But I'd have thought they try to get a younger upcoming driver.

Such a bummer, he's such a sick driver and got denied the championship a few times w/the Scuderia. Hope they keep the momentum going for all our sakes (before he runs off to the WEC) - he's exciting to watch!

Maybe McLaren will get their act together. They're so much better now than they were, but still have a ways to go.

I totally agree Kurt, a little overzealous to think they'll fight for the championship like Alo was saying but hey ... who am I to say.

Oh & .... his name is Rio & he dances off the griiiid:
