Test drove a TSX wagon yesterday. Surprisingly a very nice wagon and really good looking. I had '09 TSX sedan as a loaner for about a week years ago, but this wagon is much better car and handles amazing with better weight distribution compared to the sedan. My wife loved it too and was going to pull the trigger if the price difference with trade-in was around $9000, but their first number was $17000 difference and second being $14000. We said no thank you at this price and walked out
We might keep the FX and told her few mods will improve the mpg. So I have about $1000 to spend on the FX now. Thinking about Unorthodox underdrive pulley set and Unichip or Stillen headers. It'll be nice to do all three, but I'll need $500 more budget from her. lol

Not sure if you guys could help me or not, but I figured I would ask here since I got my first ticket in Oregon.
I was in Corvallis on my way to an appointment and the speed went from 25 to 20 mph and it was a school zone. Of course right after I come over the hill there is a Sheriff sitting on the end of someones driveway shooting radar. I knew I was screwed. Right when I went past him he pulled out behind me and turned his lights on.
He said he pulled me over and gave me a ticket for 1)$520 - Illegal alteration/displaying plate - having a clear cover over my license plate. 2)$110 - Failure to display registration plate - Don't have a front plate, the bumper doesn't even have holes...3) $220 - Speeding - 25 mph in a 20 mph zone. I was nice to the cop and he seemed like he was being nice, and I figured he would just get me for the speeding. He went to the front to see where the plate should be mounted and even made the comment at first that there were no holes and told me to go to Acura and get them drilled. So I figured he would give me a warning for that and the rear cover.
The speeding was my fault because I just wasn't paying attention and didn't slow down. But the one that really pisses me off is the $520 for a clear cover over my license plate. Mainly the fine. The front plate one sucks too, but really? $520 for a clear cover over the plate? That's ridiculous. This is what it looks like.
So now that I'm done whining, I was wondering if you guys thought that I could get the rear plate cover and no front plate fines dismissed, or at least knocked down if I fixed it and brought pictures. I can even show pictures that I bought it like that. I know not knowing the law isn't an excuse, but I would think it would make them knock it down at least.

i would fight it.. i would take pictures of the back plate with different angles to show that its clear enough to see, i would also tell the judge that it wasnt like you were trying to hide it you have a clear one its not smoked like you see other people have. also i would say you were unaware of even having a front plate due to when you bought the vehicle there wasnt one there and the dealer never suggested it. (i would also take some tape and just tape the front plate on there and take a picture) this shows you fixed the issue also the only thing you can say then is you were speeding alittle and you were coming down off a hill its always hard to compensate back and forth... this should help alittle.. is this your first ticket? that will help even more.. honestly i feel the officer was being a bit nit picky on things.. ive had no front plate for 3 yrs no issue and i drive by a police station twice a day.. the speeding one its the tricky one but the plates should of been fix it tickets

Oregon became really strict about plates starting late 2006. Actually they have a law regarding license plates including the license cover, but they just were not enforcing it strict like these days. I've been pulled over twice, got two tickets for not having front plate. Plus my friends also been pulled over and got ticketed. After that, I just have my front plates on even though its little "uncool."
Oregon law is you gotta have plates on both ends (furthest ends of the car, meaning having a front license displayed on the front windshield does not count either), and they should be clearly visible by the officers to see. Sometimes they give you a fix-it ticket with the plates, if not you'll have to spend some time at the court to appeal.

State law prohibits anything obstructing your plates including clear covers. Though we have one on our Jetta, but that is so obviously a family car they leave us alone. This law also includes having a plate frame that covers up part of your registration tags.
Front plates are also required in Oregon as well, regardless as to whether they are drilled or not. I even got a ticket for that on my TSX which is why have the pswdjdm plate relocator (hate it in the middle).
As for the speeding ticket, it's the first two weeks back to school, they are hitting it hard because it's a huge revenue raiser.
My suggestion, remove the plate cover, zip tie the front plate to one of your air dam grills, photograph it and go to court, the judge will most likely over turn that. As for the speeding the best they'll do is reduce it probably 20% - 30% because you took the time to show up.
Or cross your fingers the cop isn't at court that day and move to have them all removed since the prosecution is not present at the hearing.

Thanks for the input guys. The thing that confused me is that the plate ones weren't fix it tickets. Especially since it was my first time being pulled over for anything. But hopefully the judge will treat them like that if I fix them and bring pictures. Also, yeah, I don't expect to get the speeding ticket dismissed. Best case scenario they will reduce it, but I haven't really heard good things about the Benton county traffic court. Court date is on the first, I'll be sure to post what happens.

Gawd those SOB pigs piss me off. They did the same sort of thing to me when I was your age. It's discrimination and they get away with it because society thinks we need to teach you a lesson. Now that I'm old fat and full of wrinkles, I get off with a warning. Last time I got pulled over he ignored the reckless driving, failure to obey at traffic control device and the sooo obviously illegal tint on the windows.
Sorry for the bad luck, get yourself a V1 and avoid these pricks next time.

yup..
To add on, if you park the car on metered street parking spots without the front plate, City of Portland can ding you for that too. I've been dinged $180 or so for not having front plate in 2007.

I used to work at a company that make traffic solution call JAI inc in San Jose. We even program those camera to give you ticket for having a cover over your plate. The truth of the matter is that there is nothing you can do to prevent the flashing light and the infrared light taking picture of your plate. As an engineer I can agree on that. the only way you can void the traffic cameras is by taking your license plate off, or have a James Bond vehicle. nothing works because we tried everything you can think of. good luck with that ticket. just fight it at it would be reduce to about a buck 20.

10k is good but 9k will be better. have a feeling they are wanting to get rid of wagons with about 6 or 7 of them sitting in the lot.
Drove two more cars yesterday. Acura gave me a new RDX loaner which was surprising, and went to Honda to test the CR-V. Test driving a TSX wagon and having a RDX as a loaner before driving the CR-V totally spoiled us.

We really liked the RDX, but price is an issue. About $40k with AWD and TECH package. It looks amazing too in person. Didn't really liked on pictures but it looks real good and upscale in and out. Also rear seat has abundant leg room. Handling wise, its pretty good on corners and soft on bumps. CR-V can't even compare even though RDX is based off from CR-V. But one weird thing I experienced was torque steer. Not sure if its EPS or AWD issue, but it does have torque steer for sure when its floored.
So what salesman suggested was go with TSX wagon because price is right (no incentives on RDX), better mpg, not a first year model. And maybe few years down the road, upgrade to RDX after mid model year update if we really need bigger car with AWD. I think he's points are right too since I was wary of CR-V, RDX, and CX-5 being first year model and our lifestyle don't really need AWD anymore. And if we really need more traction, we can get a set of winter tires.
Now the decision is if we should really pull the trigger or just keep the FX. She's averaging 14mpg on the FX. Worst she can get on the TSX will be around 22mpg. Wife will pay for the FX and TSX wagon difference. And here's a last important point.. I always fill up the FX for her when its empty ($70~80 easy). Should we get the TSX wagon?
