got my first 100% carbon fiber spark plug cover done.. weave got distorded in a few spots but she is usable.. pics to come later.. i plan to make a couple more now that i dialed it in right just to have off hand.. next up ill make the cover for the DBW system.. just to add alittle something under the hood.. i was thinking of maybe doing the plastic inside peices of the fenders too.. not sure if that would be too much.. then after that i might step up and see about doing a hood.. (ill try my truck first just in case)

Still waiting on a roof/window bid, so RDX's life has been spared. You can barrow the TMIC cover if you'd like to try your hand at honeycomb. It just sits under the camera at the park and ride all day. I don't even get her up to 50mph anymore.

Anyone going to the Oregon Air Show next month?

Vets are free on Sat Aug 4th. And good seats are still available. GA is only $10. Otherwise PM me for a VIP seat.

Sorry, no Robosaurus this year.

dont think ill be going to the airshow.. after they stopped not being able to do speed of sound it just wasnt as fun.. too many pussys out there complained about that so they banned it.. what is this world coming to?? its borderline unamerican to not watch jets reach the speed of sound =)

i wanna try and see if i can find a use one first.. sometimes when you mold the part you have to break the part out to use the mold (went through 2 spark plug covers).. and i would hate to have to buy you a new one..

K.

Drove it all the way in today. Really hate taking the looser limo/shame train to work. Rock Star parking=$8.00

I'll be walking straight down those stairs, jumping in the RDX and driving right to the bar after work.

Brando, was the CF hood your goal in all of this? Plug covers look cool, but it's a lot of work to shave a pound and a half off the car's weight. How expensive is that CF stuff anyhow? Would it cost you $200 to make a hood? You can buy a ViS for $600, so I'm guessing that they are making them for around $100.

Brandon, if you get this CF stuff down, I may commission you to build me a custom heat shield for my new intake if you're interested.

pshh.. most companies only do a single layer carbon and then follow it up with just fiberglass mat so you figure average cost of a 2 yard sheet to do the first layer of a hood is about 70 bucks.. then you figure the cost of the core to substane the rigidness is about 10$ then you have the fiberglass mat which is 2 layers depending on thickness so tops maybe 40 bucks.. then you have resin. and that depends on if its vinyl ester infusion resin or if they are using and actual epoxy.. actual epoxy is doubt full since its thick and isnt as good for infusion and it doesnt hold a higher temp tollernce as vinyl ester.. anyway. i could write a book on how much i learned but in short.. material you are looking at about 150 if its a pure 100% carbon then 200 at the most.. but you need to make the mold too which is a good 90$

so for them charging 600 when you figure mold and what they use to build it.. they make a pretty penny you are basicly paying for there man hours to do it..

i weighed my stock spark plug cover it was 7.25 oz i weighed my carbon it was 3 on the nose.. imagine if you had a true carbon hood.. then imagine a dry carbon hood. which is even lighter.. those are prepreg carbon sheets so you are getting the best ratio possible

do you have ideas on how you want it? something like this? http://www.carid.com/1999-ford-exped...ke-359590.html or you thinking just those small shields like Injen does where it covers half the intake cone?

i got to clean the mold.. my goal is to do another this weekend next week at the latest.. hopefully i get the same results =) need to pick up a few misc items too.

i also plan to make a mold of the DBW cover that is located on the firewall left side.. this should be an easier peice to do since it doesnt have as many sharp contours to it.. if all goes well on this peice ill make a few to sell

I gave him the universal "you talk to much" followed by the "bird" hand gestures as I passed the front of the train.

BTW same chatty idiots ride it every morning. It's like a breakfast club for middle-aged people without the food.

Think I'll be paying for street parking more often this summer.

I have the mugen logo on mine :P lol

No the reps are pretty good, there was a slightly wider gap where the doors meet between the front and back window visors and they are missing the rubber strip on the bottom of the driver/passenger windows like the mugens. Other than that you really can't tell and you couldn't tell those unless you were staring at both side by side.
