gas thread

i have been a fan of Chevron and never had any Shell or 76...at least not in my TL...recently my friend told me he once put in Shell and notice engine is a lot quieter compare to Chevron...he has a 09 Mazda 3 and he usually put in 89 octane.

anyone here experience any difference on their TL with different brand of gas???

most top tier gas stations are the same.
as long as you're putting in 91+ then you will be fine.

Your friend isn't doing anything putting 89 in his 3. The 3 doesn't call for 89 or 91.

Like Justin said Top Tier gas, is all the same out here Chevron, Shell, 76 those are the only 3 I use for all my cars as well.

My dad uses Sam's Safeway and AM/PM in one of his trucks and has been running fine since 2005 when he bought it brand new.

It certainly wont hurt. But I thought that Shell and Chevron already has cleaning agents in the fuel. I bought a bunch of additives when they are FAR and I'm still going through them.

my mom got a Toyota Prius and those things are really sensitive to brands of gas. She has tried filling up 3 times at every brand of gas. Said the ones that she had best mpg at was: in order.. 1. Costco, 2.(tie) Chevron & Shell then 3. 76

so now we switched from Chevron to Costco but thats just my family and I

clean out and 100 octane!?!?!?

do you know what you're talking about?
do you know the benefits of using 100 octane?

certainly not for cleaning.
Do you know why we need a high octane for engines?

Because of our high compression engines. If you use lower octane gas with high compression engines, you'll get early detonation. This will cause knocking in engines but today's engines come with a knock sensor that will retard the timing so it will allow the engine to run on lower compression at the cost of performance.

So is 91 from Arco okay? I live a block away from one and all the other gas stations have way higher prices.

I try to stick with top tier, but in the past have used Safeway, Arco, etc. Just 91 in my Infiniti.

Arco gas won't blow up your car but it's not a Top Tier station.

If anyone is looking for 100 octane we have a 76 station here in SJ that sells it from the pump. $7.25 last time I was there. Good for counteracting heat soak in the summer and few extra HP in the 3G TL's. I don't know the exact address but it's near the Capitol auto mall.

i use anything 91 octane, gasoline has to pass regulation in order for it to be sold in california, the only difference from shell to chevron to arco is the additives they put into it
