It appears your turnaround time will be five days. I would assume they don't work on the weekends. If so, you would assume if you brought them your wheels on a Monday you should get them back on Thursday. When you say, "you have to strip the wheels for them", do you mean you only take off your wheels with the tires attached and they dismount the tire from the wheel or do you have to dismount the tires from the wheels before bringing the wheels to them?

I am considering either painting or powder coating my Jeep's OEM wheels from silver to black. What do you think, should I get my wheels painted or powder coated? I have heard pros. and cons. about both processes. I just bought some BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires [LT245/70R16D], but have not had them installed yet since they had to special order them. Should I get the wheels painted/powder coated before the new wheels get installed or after?

By stripping the wheels I mean you have to provide them with wheels that don't have anything you don't want coated on them. No TMPS, no center caps, no nothing.

Also, as to turnaround time, they apparently do certain finishes on certain days and it just so happens that the finish I selected is not going to be done until Tuesday. If I had pushed, I probably could have gotten them to do them by yesterday, but I would rather they take their time and do it right.

Basically, for powder coating or painting, the question is how log do you want the finish to stand up? Most wheels are powder coated at the factory because it is a stronger finish. Paint is thinner and it scratches more easily. In the end I went with powder coat because it will last longer, and because I talked to Archway Collision and they said they wouldn't paint the wheels, they would send them to New Image Coatings to get them powder coated.

Does anyone know if a warranty transfers to someone who buys my car. I bought the extended 100K bumper to bumper warranty when I purchased my car?

Extended warranties are all different. You would have to go back through the paperwork to find out for sure.

If it is the actual AcuraCare warranty, then yes.

You will need:
- A copy of a bill of sale (dated to within 15 days of sale) - this is not the title portion, just something handwritten or typed that you can create.

-A copy of a transfer request form (available from Acura)

- A check for $50 payable to American Honda Motor Company

All will need to be sent to: Attn: Transfers Dept, PO Box 2225, Torrance, CA 90504 (could be 90509, but you need to get in touch with Acura anyways)

The wheels look awesome josh... makes me REALLY want to do that to mine.

I was looking at a '07 civic SI last night. I loved the way it drove, it looked cool but the only thing that made it better than my TL is that it was a 6spd. I couldn't let myself "downgrade" to a civic just because of the manual shift. Plus i still owe too much on my TL to make the car loan make sense. Oh well, ill just have to suffer with a really cool looking automatic...lol.

I'm supposed to get the tires mounted up today, I'll take some better pics of the car with the wheels mounted, those don't do them justice at all. My original concern that the wheels would make the car look less shiny have been confirmed. I put one up next to the car when picking them up and knew I was in trouble.

Also, it ended up being $300 because the paint was apparently a real PITA to get off.

It's still a pretty well-spent $300 if you ask me.

Oh yeah, they can do all sorts of colors, they had fluorescent orange and yellow and all kinds of crazy colors and finishes. A guy with an STI had a black crackle finish put on his wheels and they looked sick!

*runs in panting... Hey... I was looking everywhere for you guys!

I'm in the twin cities- Wife's TL ('04) needs the "105K Maintenance- TB, water pump, plugs, etc."
Where do I bring it, someone who I can trust for a fair price? is there a "really good" shop? RS motors? etc...

Josh - were you in the vecinity of where you would be crossing Portland at around 5:00-6:00 this evening?

I was visiting a buddy of mine that lives over off 32nd and Lake, and we went to eat at the Rail Station, and I'm pretty sure I saw you. Either that, or you're murdered out wagon #2 in the area.

Josh the car looks sweet, i like the blacked out look. You should paint your calipers black as well. Maybe you could go take some pictures of Jorges type S, so everyone can see it.

When you powder coat wheels, do you always get that glossy finish? If so, I don't know if powder coating is the way to go for me since I would like to go with more of a matte finish on my Jeep...

No, you can get anything from crackle-paint to super-gloss like I did. I told them I wanted them to look wet so they went to the glossiest they could.

Did you get your headers? Are you doing them this weekend? How long doyou think it would take to do the A- Spec suspension on jack stands? Maybe this weekend?

Josh, do you know New Image Coatings' e-mail address? On their website it states, "Send us e-mail with any Questions or Price Quotes!". However, I can not locate their e-mail...

No idea, you should just call them, it's a pretty small shop but they do great work. If they don't pick up, just leave them a message and they will call you back.

If you do go up there, let them know that you found out about them from me. I don't get anything from the deal, but I did tell them that I was going to post up some pics of the wheels. It would be nice not to be one of the 1000 people they interact with that say the same thing.

I'm seriously considering dropping my $100 a month TV habit. What kind of options do I have? I'm assuming build a PC, turn it into a DVR, and get an HD antenna. Is Hulu HD? Are there decent "online" channels? I know about 60% of the shows I watch are available online anyways, not sure why I even bother paying for them.

What do you guys do for true "Media Center" PC's? I work on PC's every day of my life, so it wouldn't break my heart to build a $1500 PC with a decent HD tuner card, a couple TB of drive space, and link it all into my home network for TV viewing. I just want to make sure it does the rest of my system justice. I've got a 55" Hitachi Ultravision, and a Harmon Kardon AVR765 - I'm not looking to drop my HD Dish Network for some half-assed YouTube video running from an S-video cable to my TV.

(I posted this on another forum, so that's why it's so generic for those of you that know me)

PM me your email and I will send you the parts for my machine from Newegg. My mobo is not available any longer, but it's a quad-core setup with 8GB RAM, blu-ray, 3 digital tuners and 3 analog tuners. Total cost was about $800 with the case.

Hey Jorge, no headers till Tuesday according to ups. I'm available saturday after 3:00. The suspension shouldn't take much more than 2 hours tops. My brother will have his 04 out getting some stuff done as well.

I called New Image Coatings today and talked to Mark. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. However, I am still debating on whether to paint them or get them powder coated. Check-out the thread I started on L.O.S.T. Jeeps in regards to Painting vs. Powder Coating OEM Wheels: http://tiny.cc/nc2ms. My user name is Carmodifier on their also. That's my red Jeep pictured at the beginning of the thread. I am also debating on what color to go with: dark charcoal to match the fenders, bumpers, side skirts, etc. OR black to match the tires, tint, mirrors, door handles, etc. What color do you guys think I should go with for the wheels?

Mark owns the place, he should know what he's talking about!

Ok, so my first thought is that those guys are pretty ill-informed.

Powder coating heats the wheels to 390 for 10 minutes. Check with a metallurgist and you will find that in order for it to weaken the aluminum you will have to heat it higher or for longer for any affect to the aluminum structure. I had this same debate with an autocross guy until I showed him the numbers. I also talked to my brother that is an engineer and works with aluminum all-day. That heat is too low, and the duration too short to cause any change in the metal structure.

Also, they all say pain because you can touch it up. Ok, so why can't you touch up PC with paint? If you go look at the color charts they have on the wall, I doubt you will have a problem finding the color you want.

Here's what it comes down to: Paint is put on pretty thin and it is not a very durable substance. Take two surfaces, one painted and one PC and hit them both with a solid object. I'm betting that the paint will be more damaged.

Furthermore, if paint is so much better of an option, why do wheel manufacturers PC the wheels?
