hey mike, sorry about the tickets but I had an officer pull me over on a motorcycle for my exhaust on my old car. I saw the officer with his radar and barely stepped on the gas. Well he pulled up behind me and said "he heard me through his helmet" and showed me a printout that ALL aftermarket exhaust is illegal in VA. But if I take it off and go to court they will dismiss charges. Well I took off the exhaust and went to court and showed proof I took it off and the judge saw that it was my second exhaust violation and still found my guilty. So the officer lied to me and I had to pay for ticket plus court cost. VA SUCKS!!

Mike, just wanted to say that sucks. I hope that you are able to win this if you decide to fight it. And who knows, if the cop does not show up in court, it has a good chance of getting thrown out. I hear that is what usually happens when they don't show. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the support guys..
In my opinion, unsubstantiated charges such as these should be thrown out or dropped before we even head to court. I wish I could have a chance to calmly and logically express my concerns to his superior officer without needing to grandstand in court. If obtained from the cruiser, Video and Audio will not only clearly exhonerate me, but also end up calling the integrity of the officer and his other cases pending in that court into question.
We have a lot of respectable officers who aren't dishonest and truly do a great job protecting our neighborhoods. I don't want someone like this ruining my faith in the rest of them. (and if something ever does happen in our neighborhood, I certainly don't want some cop just making stuff up about a suspect and end up collaring the wrong perp or letting the actual perp go free on a technicality because his lies came out in court.)
I found out on Friday that vid and audio from the cruisers requires a supeona and is processed by internal affairs. (another dilemma, have a cop looked at by I.A. and then the rest of the force will have their eyes on you just waiting for you to screw up.) I will see if I can get it on my own, but I have a feeling that I will need my lawyer which will definitely not be cheap.
That's what really sucks about the whole thing. Regardless of the outcome, I am still F*CKED. Lawyer fees, fines, or both depending on the judge. Plus money to "tame" my exhaust which isn't cheap either.
I just wish I knew why.. what was his motivation? Was it my Obama signs? Was it jealousy over the car? Does his neighbor have a loud exhaust that keeps him up at night? I just wish I knew what would make it that important for him to lie. If I understood it, I could deal with it better.. but now all I can do is pace back and forth and be angry. Sorry about the rant..

If all aftermarket exhaust is illegal, then that would mean that you CANNOT go to meineke and get a replacement exhaust AT ALL...That, to me, would constitute aftermarket.

What did you end up getting? I used to have 3 tv's, dvd player, Sega Dreamcast in my old car and loved it. It was great having a tv to watch movies in between my classes at ODU but since I graduated, didnt have the need for a tv anymore.

Yo Eric put some Vicks on your chest and come out! Nice cd player, I owned a few JVC radios in the past and never had any major issues.

The headunit is in and the stock speakers sound better than ever (even though they will be changed shortly).

Oh that sux!! I hope that you can get it figured out. Wish I could help you with that one. A quick check of the fuses might help though.

Did you do the install yourself or take it to a shop?
If you did it yourself, Doc is right.. check the fuses and verify the wiring - be sure to check all of your fuses (even fuses that you might not think are related) Don't poke around with a meter.. one touch to the wrong wire and you can get a knock out punch from your airbag.
If a shop installed it, get back there ASAP and open up a can of whoop a$$ on them. All shops should do a basic systems check on the car before it leaves and it is THEIR responsibility to fix their mess.
When all else fails, if you bought it from Crutchfield I believe they still have some knowledgable tech people who you can talk to and they may be able to help you work through it.
Not sure if any of this has helped, but you are always welcome to give me a call on my cell if I can help in any way.

it sounds like a couple of fuses are blown. all those lights run on fuses. check the ones under the hood and passenger side. pull them all. but give me a call if nothing works out. 757 389 1019.

YEAH!!!!!!, If anyone ever loses those lights, instrument backlighting and tail lights (not illuminating when the headlights are on), Check your "Small Light" fuse under the hood. Its a 15amp fuse. I the radio out and checked the connections (lucky I did) but the lighting prob was due to that fuse. The problem that I DID find was that the harnesses where not mating correctly which resulted in bent pins. I straightened those and carefully plug it back in. Also, I had to plug the factory radio back in to remove CDs that I left in there (knucklehead). Now, its time for the door speakers.....

So your lights are good again, Eric? I hope so for your sake.

Can you take those speakers back and get the slim ones or will they not work with your setup? I think you told me before that that is what you did not realize you needed.

Well...only a few more days till I'm back home.
PINKS ALL OUT was tons of fun. It was freezing and windy though. I wasn't able to run my car because they had stopped accepting applications already. I'm not sure when that episode is supposed to air but I'll be keeping my eyes open for it. Hopefully I made it on TV with my AZ hoodie on. And there wasn't really much to take pics of. It's kinda hard taking pics of a car running down the strip. There were some ridiculously fast cars though. And the wheel stands were pretty sweet.
Anyhow, see you guys soon.

Well that was my last official meet here in VA. I will be leaving the state here on monday and would like to thank everyone for all the support and fun throughout my first two years with the TL. I will continue to read and post in both the Hampton Roads and NoVA threads while I am in Chicago. I just hope that i receive the same treatment there as i did here in VA. So again, I would like to thank each and everyone of you.
