2016 ILX - how to receive and send text messages?

I have an Apple iPhone, just updated it to the newest software.

I can't seem to get this to work, when someone texts me it doesn't pop up on the screen

I have all the settings enabled "On".....but I cannot access "Select Account", it doesn't allow me to click on it

does anyone have an idea how this works?

I didn't think texting worked with our cars. I've been using Siri to send/receive texts. On my iPhone I don't have a "show notifications" under bluetooth. Just on/off and a list of devices.

Can you explain better?

sure no problem.

go in settings on your iPhone, click on the Bluetooth link, you'll see the list of devices. You will see an "i" in a circle, click on the one next to "HandsFreeLink" device. Then you will see "show notifications", just switch that On

then once you're in the car, go to phone settings text/email, click "Select Account" and it will start working.

your text messages will start popping right up on the top screen, you can read them but Apple doesn't allow you to reply due to a safety issue

it will still give you the option to reply with 6 different auto messages, but Apple doesn't allow the message to be sent

Apple does not fully conform to the Message Access Protocol (MAP) and this is the reason you cannot reply with the built in system like some Android models. However, the factory system only allows 6 pre-defined replies so it is of limited usefulness, IMO. Siri allows you to read and reply in a more comprehensive method and is superior (again IMO).

agree, Siri eyes free seems to be the better option

Thanks, didn't think it worked, even the dealership told me that texting didn't work with an iPhone (no surprise there!) Not a whole lot easier then with Siri but it's nice to know when your getting a text message.

I still need to spend a little time with it and figure out the bugs with replying but at least it works. Now I only wish texting in my F150 worked with an iPhone.
