getting cable without the reciever

getting cable without the reciever

man i didnt even though this site had anything outside of our cars. hahha..

anyway i convereted my garage into a music studio slash lounge area. i got a tv thats hooked up to my ps3, wii, and xbox360. i obviously can watch dvds and play games but a few days ago i kinda felt that i should probably get cable.

thing is, since i work for a non profit for the state of california i havent gotten paid in a month (state budget cuts im sure you all have heard about). anyway...my question is. is there a way i can be able to watch cable without getting an actual service? like through the internet? i have a good internet connection in my studio. is there a piece of equipment that i can buy to be able to do this?

i might be going for a long shot here but im hoping theres a wa

steal it from your neighbor.
theft of service carry huge fines that you won't be able to pay.

Slingbox. You put the Slingbox where you have cable, then it streams to to where you want. But I think it only streams to a PC, not another TV.

oh no i was, in no way, thinking of stealing cable..lol...i mean i have direct tv in the house...just not in the garage...


slingbox? do i have to pay for a service to use that? what do i need on my computer to be able to use it (ie tv tuner? etc)

Slingbox is a one time charge for the hardware. Any last model computer should play it, no TV card needed.

Why not just run a coax cable from the "out" of your direcTV box to your garage TV?

Then if your DTV box is RF, you are golden...otherwise go to radio shack and get an IR blaster/repeater....put sensor above garage tv...and the other end in front of your DTV box. Now you can change the channels.

so say i have my router and cable box in my room and my computer and tv are in the garage. would i still be able to use the slingbox even though they are that far apart? or would i need some sort of wireless card for my computer in the garage.

sorry the concept of the sling box is new to me..i didnt even know they had that..haha

You can watch whatever is on your cable box anywhere that has a Internet connection.... They have a website.
