Hint: Don't purchase a cable DVR, and try to use it with Dish or DTV.

In other words....please provide more info when you ask your question.

As far as I have read, any motorola/ scientific atlanta box you pick up on eBay isn't going to work. Your only real choices are Tivo or Windows Media Center.

FYI, Tivo doesn't work with HD direct TV.

Just have DTV give you a new HD DVR HR21 for free....(talk with the "right CSR, until you get it for free)....then you just have to pay 5 bucks a month to lease.....60 bucks a year is pretty cheap versus paying 300 bucks.

If you have been a customer for a short time...you will have to pay.

If you are a long time customer in good standing, you should be able to get it for free.
Talk to the CSR reps until you get one that will do the deal for you.

Use a little tact.
