Smile Some Home Projects - Lots of pics

Been in the condo for a year and I'm dying for some changes. Sadly, I'm doing a few projects at once. Not all big in the scheme of things, but with a busy work schedule and living in the condo building where we must not make noise after 9, these things take time.

Area number 1: Laundry room

As you can see, I have the LG Red Washer and Dryer, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to get red IKEA cabinets!

Carted it in:

Laid out:

3 assembled:

1 more left, but need to replace a part, 4 holes vital to assembling were not drilled:

Mess everywhere:

COMPLETE - Small project: Message Board and Place to set my keys, wallet and phone:

Kitchen Cabinet Hardware: Unfortunately the builder put on hardware without my consent. IKEA came through again with something modern that I liked.

Before on right, after on left:

Close up:

Installed on some Cabinets:

Last project is making my own "entertainment center":
No pics yet, though I assembled the left cabinet for some time now, and there are shelves building the sides and top. Stay tuned...

Where did you get the message board from? Ikea?

You can scribble on the glass and it comes off without a problem?

Yup! It works like a dry erase board. I got the board and the markers from IKEA. The board is $20 and the markers like 2 bucks.

The board is call KLUDD

Clips come with it.

The shelf is from the bathroom section.

Construction is solid, they have a long warranty, like 15-25 years or something. They have a lot of styles.

Things are coming together. Looks nice.

One downside to getting handles/pulls from IKEA, is they use metric screws. So if they ones that come with the handles aren't long enough, you can't easily find them at HD or Lowes. Still, I got some and like em.

Yup, I ran into that problem with the drawers. What I did was make wider holes on the drawer, while leaving the drawer door the regular 3/16 so that the screws would go through the drawer and hold the door and handle together. My doors are fastened to the drawers using screws (built that way).

The doors are ABSTRAKT.

I also got the glass door.

The glass door is called AVSIKT.

The cabs are their standard kitchen cabinets.

More progress! Just 1 more cabinet to go on the right side, just need to get the piece from IKEA. That will be an open cabinet, though I'm still debating if I will put a door on that last cabinet, the door would get in the way of the duct work, so I'd have to cut the door. (Hard to do on a glass door, the red doors are not cheap!)

Crappy picture, but it goes well with the washer and dryer. Very happy with the result.

How are you attching the cabinets to the wall (I see the metal bar at the top-is this necesary to the installation or can you just screw them into the wall)?

You can do it either way, I preferred using the railing the studs didn't seem to be spaced out in the standard manner.

Makes sense.

How do you like the cabinets? I am thinking about checking them out for my new place (save a few bucks in the kitchen and spend more in the garage ).

I like them, pretty easy to put together and hang. Did it all by myself.

Last pics of the laundry room I think. Pretty much done. Just bought some handles for the doors.

Might put a door on this last cabinet, but I would have to cut the door to clear the vent duct.

The pulls I got, some modern t-bars

Even put in a matching Iron
I had this holder for over a year, finally mounted it.

Looks great. I'm a big fan of Ikea as well. So far we have gotten our entertainment center, shelves, chairs, bedroom TV stand, bedside tables, cabinet and chest of drawers from Ikea. And maybe a couple other stuff.

Damn CTL, I got all fired up by the KLUDD board. Since there's no IKEA in H-town I looked into getting it shipped out. Board is only 19.99 and shipping is $68. WTF? Oh well, maybe pick one up next time I'm on the mainland.
