Excellent knifes, but many don't like the handle. It's the knife of choice of your man, Bobby Flay...

Personally, I like my Henkels and Kyocera/Boker ceramics.

The Global I have is their japanese knife. I've noticed all the Japanese restaraunts and sushi places all use the exact global Knife I have (when not using ceramics). That's actually why they got it for me because they also got me sushi lessons and the instructor recommended this knife.

I like my Henckels. Although, I probably ought to sharpen them once in a while. :o

I tried out a set of Globals and didn't like it too much. Kinda didn't feel right in my hand while chopping.

Wustof's for me...Maybe some Kyocera ceramics down the line. I like the Shun japanese knives too tho.

I have the Globals. Love them. Have to be very careful as they are so sharp.

If you are going to buy something, buy it right the first time. That is why I bought Globals. Basically, any good brand will work. While they are expensive, it is something that you will have for a very long time, so they are worth it.

Bought my gf one for X'Mas as she liked my knoves so much. A 4.5 icnh kitchen knife was $45. Ouch!

J.R. Henckel knives

does anyone know the order of quality of JR Henckel knives? I see advertisements for 5 star, 4 star, Pro S, etc. but I cannot find a one-source to tell me which is the end-all-be-all of Henckel knives and which are "ok" quality. This all stems from my wife having purchased for me a set of Henckel's in the store for father's day, and then today seeing what she believes is the "same" set for about 1/3 of the price of the one she bought for me. Neither of us can remember the series that we have, but we know what we paid. Anyone know the of quality?

There are two companies, the ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS which is their high end stuff and the J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL which is the consumer stuff.

I'm pretty sure the Pro S > 5 Star > 4 Star > Twin Select and these are all a part of the higher end lines.

The Henckel website may be of help http://www.jahenckels.com/

Great knives, but I never have uses for all the extra pieces they give you in those sets...I just buy Dexter/Russell pieces one by one.

But, by all means...nobody makes a nicer looking knife than Henckels...

Take it for what it's worth, I was in Germany and visited a knife store and asked the proprietor about the quality of Henkels. She told me that there were other knives that were better or equivalent to Henkels that didn't cost as much as the Henkels brand. She said that Henkels just had lots of marketing behind them so it's a name-brand thing, like clothing labels. I am sure Henkels make great knives, but you can find something better for less money and maybe even better quality.

Difference between Pro S/5 Star/4 Star is the handle. They all have the same blade. I have the 22 piece Pro S and the knives are awesome. If you are going to buy Henkels, don't waste your money on the cheap ones as they are not worth it, stick with either Pro S/5 Star/4 Star.

Consumer reports shows all henkel products to be exceptional. I am looking at their $200 set it seems to be dead in the middle as price goes and they are very classy.

I can't stand cooking at other people's homes if they don't have a good, or at least decent french knife.

Agreed. I've gotten to the point where I have a Craftsman tool bag I use when I cook over someone elses home. Has a large chef's knife, wisk, couple of silicone spatulas, paring knives, butchers towel and various spice containers. Oh, and you gotta have a good set of tongs...

I prefer Cutco knives myself.
Anyone have those.
I have a large block with about 25 of them including (8) steak knives.

And what is that opinion based on? Have you owned them?

A few of the ones I have are nearly 20-Years old and still going strong.
And they all have a Lifetime warranty that I’ve never had to use even once.
