Leaking Tub Spout Help
Leaking Tub Spout Help
Just had my bathroom completely remodeled about 6 months ago, and bought and had the plumber at the time install the following trim and valve below. Now, after I shower, the spout drips for a few seconds every 45-60 seconds or so, it is not a constant slow drip. What do I need to do to fix this?

Obviously first thing is are you turning the faucet completely closed? If yes...
Sounds like the washer on the end of the cartridge is worn causing it to not completely seal the cold/hot water lines.
You need to shut off the water and open the lowest faucet in the house to drain the water from the pipes.
Remove the handle (probably an Allen holding it in place).
Then remove the cartridge with an open end wrench. Easiest is to just replace the entire cartridge. Probably less than $20.

Also what do you mean by the lowest faucet in the house?

have never done one of these things, it seems premature for the washer to already be shot. What is the cartridge, is there a universal replacement or moen will replace for me? Is it different than the valve? Sorry for the rookie questions.

I would call Moen and explain the situation. They are very good at fixing customer problems. They will probably send you a new cartridge.
The cartridge is the valve that opens and closes to allow water to flow. It's the thing that you are turning when you turn the handle.
If you want to remove the cartridge without getting soaked you need to drain the entire system (hot and cold water) from the pipes in the house. Opening the lowest faucet in the house (basement, kitchen on first floor) allows you to drain the water from the system.
There are a TON of youtube vids on how to replace the cartridges.
Helped me out, just remember (or take pics) the order you remove stuff and COVER the damn drain with a towel to prevent parts from going down it!
