Ceiling Fans
Ceiling Fans
I've been looking for a replacement ceiling fan for my master bedroom for like a year. All fans I see in stores and online are fugly. I need the fan because the bedroom can get warm in the summer (it's on the top floor of a 3-story townhouse).
Does anyone know someplace that sells cool, modern-looking ceiling fans? Or is that an oxymoron?

Hunter makes great fans; you can usually find exactly what you want too:

a bit more expensive than most of the crap you find at the local home depot.

I too like the Hunter.
You can get them at Home Depot/Lowes/etc. They are very quiet.
Also, look into a remote control for your fan. I believe they can all be fitted for that. I installed the fan in my living room by myself. So that means it must be pretty easy. I even did the remote control. The box and everything was already in the ceiling.

I think this is more of what you're probably looking for but not sure if it'll be as high quality as you'd find in a hunter:

Instead of a remote control, I had a 4 position (off-low-med-high) switch installed on the wall next to the light switch. The light switch controls the lights in the fan. No more tacky chains hanging off the fan.

Thanks for all the responses. Actually, I dig one of the Hunter fans (the Lugano). I need to get one with a light, which seems to always add some extra ugliness to the fan. The Lugano isn't bad though.

mt6, assuming their claims are indeed wrong. I'd submit that these fans would be stricly for looks anyway...
but look at the rest of their line, they do have alot of really cool fans that look like they move alot of air.

Yeah, they have darker wood blades. Apparently, no stainless steel. I'm looking at the lighter wood because the room it's going in has a light paint color and light-colored toothpick blinds.
60" blade circle seems huge to me, so I have to check it out.
Yeah I like light wood, currently I have all light maple furniture.
However, new house has a light of darker wood throughout, and old wood flooring... which never looks great with modern woods.
I'll probably do more traditional woods throughout, wiht stainless accents to modern it up.

First I replaced the dingy cream-colored switches and outlets (only requires minor electrical knowledge), with white ones. After I put on the SS wallplates, the room went from looking c. 1940's to modern.
