I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I want to cut fat and MAINTAIN my muscle and strength. You have to have a priority, fat loss or gaining muscle. Can't do both at the same time. Well not effectively at least.

I do it mostly to lose weight and lean up. I don't see it how a pro bodybuilder can get big from it either but it's probably also on their diet. I love it for how I feel throughout the day, how my health numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) have dropped, and I still stay pretty strong since they add in some power exercises (olympic lifts). It just uses basic principles that most trainers like yourself already knew and make programs and market it well. Haven't you noticed the Crossfit/Boot Camp gyms opening up and charging a ton of money per month. These WILL get you in shape but for what the OP is looking for, it's not what he wants.

One of the main functions of Glutamine is muscle retention. Basically is prevents the burning of muscle during high intensity activity.

What Is L-Glutamine?
L-Glutamine the most abundant amino acid in muscle cells. It is released from the muscle during times of stress (such as hard weight training workouts) and dieting. This amino acid not only has been shown to be a great anti-catabolic agent (protects the muscle from the catabolic activities of the hormone cortisol), to be a contributor to muscle cell volume, and to have immune system enhancing properties but also to help in the following ways:

* Regulation of protein synthesis (this is one of the ways in which steroids exert their muscle building effects).
* Accelerating glycogen synthesis after a workout.
* Sparing the use of the glycogen stored in the muscle cell (recall that the glycogen stored in the muscle cell is what gives the cell the healthy volume and firmness that you seek).
* Faster recuperation from weight training workouts.

deja vu

Bro, I'm the same exact build as you. 5'7" 239lbs. (was 246 two weeks ago)
My goal is to be 200lbs by summer.
Funny that you mentioned monster energy drinks. I love monster but those drinks definitely destroyed my metabolism.

I've simply cut all the shit food out of my diet. I minimize the amount of processed sugar i take in. (natural sugar/cane sugar is fine... doesn't affect your glycemic levels as much) Also, portion control is a really big deal. Lots of small meals is the only way you're going to raise your metabolism. In fact, I find that the more complex carbs i take in the more weight i lose. Beans, Brown rice, Wheat pasta, etc.

And forget about all the supplements. Extra protein is pretty much the only thing you're gonna need. Most of that stuff bulks you up anyway. And as you've mentioned, bulking up is not necessary at this stage. You said some of it is keeping you up at night. If you're not sleeping your muscles aren't recovering and your anxiety levels are increasing forcing your body to hold on to fat. Take a multi-vitamin before bedtime instead.

As for side-boobage, I do heavy incline first thing on my chest days. Dumbbell pull-overs and dips should help too.

Later
good luck to both of us.

Thanks! I knew it was good for protein synthesis, but didn't know about the retention. Looks like the protein shake im using has some in it.

glutamine is a good muscle healer, but some products reccomend u dont mix it with others...like my cell mass, says on the bottle not to mix the 2 because its counter productive to the cell mass.

luckily for me i dont work,so i do get my sleep, although i stay up late im lucky enough my son dosent wake up till at least 10 or so..today at 1045...

the only thing keeping me up is my NO product cause i dont take it till about 6PM. but i usualy get to bed before 12pm.

all my other supps are just vitamins except the lipo 6...which is a fat burner,a good one that works well on me.
anyways, thanks for not posting a bunch of useless info.
ive been adding those exact workouts for my boobage (as reccomended by my best friend/trainer)

im only going to do this 1 cycle of cellmass and no xplode and the rest of my time ima stay off it prob. but theres no sense in letting it go to waste since it was an xmas gift!

I'm pretty sure what you are referring to is that some supplements are absorbed by the same receptors in your muscle and if you combine supplements which use the same receptors the absorption process is not as efficient. You should try to take different supplements at different times.

For example, don't mix everything into one shake, take your creatine after your workout and your glutamine before it.

I've heard some conflicts, but the overwhelming majority lean towards post workout.

Here is one of several things I've read:

http://www.gain-weight-muscle-fast.c...-creatine.html

Of course there is the old "do what's best for your body" disclaimer.

WTF. When I did creatine in college before a workout I saw great gains. Plus I didn't do as much as they told you to do. Seemed pretty excessive to me.

You should avoid combining caffine and creatine.

That's so you buy more.

Creatine doesn't deplete in your muscles, hence there is no need to replenish the amount of creatine being stored in your muscles prior to working out. It is a waste to over supplement with creatine.

well...i just want to make it last, lol so if it works fine with 1 serving a day, theres no sense in making it only last half as much. it gets expensive to use supplements, but in all honesty, supplements DO help reach goals faster,no matter what some people say.

protein is #1 tho. if i could only choose 1 supplement to use,it would be a good protein.

I get what you're saying, but you can get protein from meals. If I had to pick one I'd probably go with Glutamine, as it is harder to get larger doses of it from a meal.

+1

I try my hardest to get protein from REAL food... shakes are last resort. But glutamine is a must.

lol, yeah, cardio is the most boring part. That's why I do it first.

That's some serious supplements especially the ones you listed before, but they get the job done.

your lean muscle will look 10x better than your bulky muscle (if that makes sense), glad you're starting the cardio. i think you'll find that your process will go more smoothly, good luck

I was referring to your looking "less muscular" comment. By doing cardio you'll look alot muscular than you are now. Thats for sure.

i just meant that ill be less LARGE by muscular...u kno?

i dont want to be below 200LBS lean if i can get away with it.
i very good example of the SIZE i want to be is anthony presciano.
ill post a pic in a sec.

hes obviously really lean in these pics for the shoot, but he dosent get much fatter in off shoot time.

my one problem with his physique in this photo shoot is his obliques seem too big for the rest of his body now...they werent liek that in previous shoots.

pics in a sec -----v
