Kinda a side topic:

Do you guys think that V-day gets less and less spectacular over the years? It seems that the longer the relationship, the less that is expected on V-day, in my opinion.

 

this valentine's was the 5th one with the gf.

the first two valentine's were more "exciting" because the relationship was still new. however, each of them have their own uniqueness and fond memories.

i do agree that it seems like less is expected on v-day the longer the relationship goes. but i still try and surprise my gf even if it's something simple like flowers.

We don't go all out for Valentine's Day or Valentine's gifts...just some much enjoyed time together and a really nice dinner out. We surprise each other with tiny things throughout the year anyway. If he wants to go all out, I'm touched and honoured, but I certainly don't expect it. To be honest, the thing I really love the most is getting a card and reading the words he chose for me...that's really all that's necessary for me.

I/we don't feel less loved or think recognizing each other becomes less important, but I think as you get older you also become more practical. For example, personally, I'd rather have him put money towards other things than spending a ton on overpriced, hyped gifts (we don't celebrate on Feb. 14th anyway, so we don't buy with a 300% mark-up). I'd rather he put money into finishing the basement, going on a date, saving up for a vacation, other home renos, doing something special, something we'd get more use out of/enjoy more, etc than $100 on roses that he feels he needs to get. We know we love each other and express it often enough that one day of overload really isn't necessary.

 

I imagine that I am never going to get the most I can get out of V-Day or a relationship until I find a woman that can hold my attention long enough for me to give a f*ck!

That will of course require me to stop being so arrogant, trust more, stop pissing them off, and the rest of the shebang...not ready to do that yet, and there has not been a woman that is good enough for me to give it up for, so I remain sexually attracted...but I also remain optimistic...for am I not me...
