It's like the fish paste stuff you buy at the Asian store...it's gooey when it's raw and has the consistency and appearance of wall filler or something.

If you ever eat dim sum and order the bell peppers with some fish filling in the middle, it's the same stuff I'm eating right now.

I think it's just called pre-made fish paste or something at the asian market.

Ahi tuna over greens:

Ahi (about 6-8 oz)
Sear it, 1.5 minutes per side, then remove from heat

Slice up
Euro cucumber (1/4)
Radishes (3)
Cherry tomatoes (3 or 4)
Avocado (1/2)
Greens

Mix together
1-2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1-2 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons olive oil
Wasabi powder

Put dressing over greens/vegetables, then slice the ahi and lay it over everything. Pretty tasty.

I've been doing a simple cauliflower for the past few lunches:

As much cauliflower as you feel like eating
Enough olive oil to coat
Salt
I'll sometimes add a some red pepper

Mix everything in a bowl, set the oven to 350ish, put in for about 25 min, shaking the pan every once in a while.

Tastes pretty damn good. I'll even throw in some garlic.

My fish shop was closed so I had to buy some shit ass tuna from the regular shop - didn't turn out horrible, though it is a semi-weird color. Oysters were damn good though

Where did you get the ahi/what quality was it? We get either frozen steaks from Trader Joe's or "fresh" from Costco. Either way, we (especially my wife) are leary of eating it any way other than cooked throughout. Though, I will eat it raw at a sushi restaurant.

Also, did you make a sauce for it? Recipe?

Lastly...

Smile Steak...mmm...

Wife just prepped pan-seared sirloin steaks (non-frozen meat from Costco) for us.
Thank goodness my [business] lunch at Claimjumpers was a chicken salad.

Whoops. No pics. Already gone.

I get the ahi from Whole Earth. Not sure if it's sashimi quality, but if it isn't, it's pretty darn close. I did make a sauce, Asian aiolo: 1/2 cup mayo; 1TSP wasabi, more if you like it spicy; 1 tsp honey; 1TSP soy sauce; and 1 tsp dijon mustard.

Now that I have my grill and rotisserie going, I did a 5# prime rib with thick cut grilled new potato and grilled bell peppers of various colors.

After that was a rotisserie of 2 herb encrusted chickens, with grilled zucc and asparagus.

Love the set it and forget it aspect of grilling with the rotisserie.

I might try this next time we buy fresh. Lately, we have been buying the "roast" size pieces, cutting and freezing. I think from now on we'll stick to just buying a couple of fresh steaks and eating them within a day or two.

Thanks for the aiolo recipe. I'd also be interested in a "lighter" and tamer sauce - i.e. no mayo and no wasabi.

There was a pretty tastey Ethiopian restaurant in Tempe. Can't remember exactly where. It was the first and only place I've had Ethiopian and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Haven't found a place out here, but there have to be a few.
