This has been a thing since iPhones came out. Reminds me of when a guy pulled up to me while I was driving and told me him and his friend can bang out the dent in my car on the side of the road. I was like and bailed.
I should point out my PS5 arrived NOT in a C10 box...there was a giant bite taken out of a side. Exposed the inner compartment to where the PS5 sits. NOT COOL.
The machine works. I was a bit worried that an impact that went through 3 layers of cardboard would jar the machine but so far, it looks fine and powered up fine. I had it set up in about 40ish minutes. Though, no data transfer from the PS4.
For real though, that is gnarly shipping damage. I don't think a PS5 is as fragile as say, a monitor but you could always refuse delivery.
But then you'd have to wait some more...
Yeah, mad at myself for not seeing it yesterday. I was waiting several minutes for the box to come from the back and when it arrived, it was literally handed to me. No handle though. Given the size and etc., I did not turn it around to see it...just shrugged and walked out.
Come home and yeah, surprise!!
I wrote Walmart and sent them a pile of pics. We'll see but I'm not holding my breath. I mean, the machine works. Doesn't sound weird or off and I'll use it tonight and tomorrow...if it works, I'll assume everything is fine. Just more miffed my box has a moose-bite out of it.

Use it 24/7....put a baby cam on it....if it even smells funny....raise hell. That is super sketch.
Yeah, you can see the stiff/thick cardboard brace on the inside. That was unscathed I think. And the packaging/wrap around the PS5 itself was also flawless. So, in general, I think the PS5 from a physical perspective is okay. I'm just more concerned about the jarring/shock of the impact to its guts.
Yeah, putting the PS5 through the paces tonight. Played the freebie game (thanks for the heads-up, @Mizouse ) that actually really entertained Little Cha and the First Lady. Then, left it on while we had supper and then after that, had it on playing a movie in the background and then, music. Still on. So, about 3 hours. No weird noises. Quiet machine. Just still marveling at the heaping height and peculiar design.
We re-examined the exterior of the console and it's immaculate. So, whatever broke through the box doesn't appear to have hit the machine. Didn't try the shake test because well, don't need to try that, right?
So far so good. Will have it on until bedtime and repeat for tomorrow evening.
So, finally turned off the box (rest mode really) and yeah, had it on for most of the evening...no issues. Reinstalled Capcom Beat 'Em Up arcade series...played through entire Knights of the Round...finished it. No issues.
I think the machine is fine...albeit, still twitchy about the busted box.
Well, given I plow my car into curbs and smash windshields, are we surprised?
One more thing: Only noisiness that the PS5 makes is if the disc spins every so often. It kicked in when I just test-watched a movie on Netflix and playing the Capcom retro arcade game. So far so good...definitely not the jet liner that the PS4 used to be.
i stopped using rest mode on my PS4 because of some weird glitch that kept uninstalling Call of Duty Modern Warfare updates. Happened to me three times and the updates for Modern Warfare are HUGE (I think once it was like 100GB).
Yeah I normally keep my PS4 on sleep mode to charge controllers. Hate that PS3 doesn't have that. I still use mine as a streaming device and the occasional Guitar Hero machine.

I changed out the cable with a generic one that came with my Sammy Galaxy A8 (PoS workphone) and it charges. Weird. Must be a defective Sony cable?
But, it works fine on the back ports.
I also tinkered with the rest mode settings in the PS5 to send power to the USB ports at all times...see if that works with the OEM cable tonight.
Played some DS yesterday and okay man. None of my Bloodborne skillz has transferred over to this game. I got smashed by the first boss in like 15 seconds flat.

It's def more Dark Souls and less like Dark Souls 3 which has more Bloodborne agility. Get ready to tank and parry where needed. FYI, if you get stuck there's a major cheat bug that they left on from the PS3 version.

Ah haha...yeah, the legendary one-hit machine bug?
While I don't mind power-overwhelming, I'd rather go through this as a rite of manhood like Bloodborne...
I need to get used to this sort of movement/mechanics all over again though. It'll take me at least a few days of solid playing. Going from GoT and TLoU2 and then this...all so different, hahaha...
All consoles are brand new
$675 for digital $775 for disk
Overnight shipping/ meeting is available, half is paid up front and remaining balance payment is C.O.D
At least prices are cheapest so far I've seen....going down into the 700s for the disc version.
I saw that Best Buy had another online drop very early this AM and some ppl were able to get some more at MSRP.

PlayStation 5 GDDR6 memory reaches potentially critical temperatures due to seemingly inadequate PS5 cooling solution design
PlayStation 5 owners living in countries where the temperature can rise above 35 °C (95 °F) during the hottest months, such as Australia, India, Brazil, and the warmer states of the US, should make sure they locate their brand-new console in a very well-ventilated area and even consider taking the plates off the device and leaving it bare. An expert-level PS5 teardown by the popular YouTube channel Gamers Nexus has revealed a considerable concern for owners of Sony’s latest console.
When testing the thermal development of the key components, including the GDDR6 memory, it was discovered that the bottom memory module reached a scorching temperature of 93.3 °C (199.94 °F). The temperature was still high with one of the PS5’s plates removed, while taking off both plates helped the situation a little, with the thermal measurement reaching 88.6 °C (191.48 °F). Testing was carried out in an ambient temperature of around 23 °C (73.4 °F). For the sake of context, Micron records a maximum operating temperature of 105 °C (221 °F) for its GDDR6 memory.
Further along in the Gamers Nexus PS5 thermal testing video there seems to be an explanation for why the memory module runs so hot, especially in comparison to the top memory module that hits a reasonable 65.5 °C (149.9 °F). The heavily finned heatsink inside the PS5 has the top memory covered, but there is no contact for the bottom module, leaving it to run at potentially critically high levels. While this might not be too much of a concern for gamers who live in cooler climates, those used to having ambient temperatures that are 10-15 degrees higher than those recorded in this PS5 teardown video could be faced with a throttling or crashing console.
So, a few comments/thoughts with this giant beast-for-a-console after a bit over a week with it...
TBH, the damage to the boxes has bothered me. Those who know me really well know that it's made me very twitchy and I'm just beyond mad at myself for missing it when I received it at the Walmart store. The machine seems to be working well though but every little thing makes me jumpy.
I did pursue the possibility of an exchange and long story short: Walmart customer service sucks gonads. Their official position after about 7 days with this open ticket is this: I may choose to return the PS5 for a full refund within 45 days of taking possession of it. A replacement is completely on me as I would have to find another machine and then, return my original under the 45 day point. Otherwise, I'm PFO and/or go through Sony NA for any repairs.
Things that did make me jumpy but I guess are normal: If a disc is in the drive, it will spin routinely for 3-5 seconds (noticeable sound of the spin) every 45-60 minutes when not in use (so, if running Netflix, Prime, or Disney+). The "bug" where the front USB does not charge the controller while the PS5 is in rest mode is well, apparently common. However, the ports in the back charge just fine in rest mode and if I use a standard-issued cable from say, Google/Samsung instead, the front USB charges just fine. So, I would think it's a defective Sony USB cable? I asked for a new one from Sony NA and well, I got a PFO too.
What else? Demon's Soul...I played about 30 minutes in...gorgeous. But, I need a new TV to probably get even more graphical power being displayed. I'll have more impressions when my PO'ed LG inbounds.
Just my thoughts so far. Still don't get the stupidity behind trying to get one of these machines though. People are weird.
