What the hell...
Not that I would use the PS for that, but still, the people that will want to, that blows.

Mock all you'd like but I use my PS3 for wayyyy more than just games. I'd prefer purchasing one device to handle all my needs. Why take out simple CD function and music playback features? Does it cost that much extra?

# of times I've listened to MP3's on my PS3: very low, I never try anymore since the gdamn thing doesn't connect to my PC fking thing sucks!
verdict: non-issue

My PS3 is used by both me and my wife.
We watch Netflix, Hulu, MLB and Blu-Rays
We listen to Pandora and several bookmarked internet radio stations.
We also have it hooked up to our media server for music/movies/tv/photos etc.
And yes, games are played too. But as you can see, the PS3 does a great job being a well-rounded machine.
Why cripple the PS4? I'm probably not going to buy one now, I have no reason to

I broke my old PS3 trying to watch Breaking Bad with either TVersity or the other PS3 streaming app. Insert whatever Breaking and Bad puns you'd like
Thx for the tip about Pandora, Ken. No idea that it would work via the browser. Plus Tune In Radio started working on it so sports talk radio for me.

The sizzle in the Steak
Not playing CD's or MP3's is just plain dumb.
Why omit something so simple, yet so many people can and do use?

PlayStation 4 preorders 'much higher' than its predecessor
October 31, 2013 | By Kris Ligman
In an investor call this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment said that it expected to ship 5 million PlayStation 4s by the end of March 2014, a figure it said it drew from the record number of preorders being placed worldwide.
"Compared to past platforms, the preorders that we have received for this new platform [the PlayStation 4] is much, much higher," said Sony chief financial officer Masaru Kato, as transcribed on Seeking Alpha (free subscription required).
As recently as August, SCE said that global preorders for the PS4 had exceeded 1 million. Global figures for PlayStation 3 are not ready to hand, although it is quite true that the overall market for consoles continues to be on an upward trend.
Kato said that in addition to the high number of preorders, the platform's launch lineup prompted a vote of confidence.
"Sometimes, when we launch a new platform, the software catalog is not sufficient," said Kato. "This year, on a comparative basis, I think we have a much more stronger (sic) lineup of software coming."
Sony's PlayStation 4 is scheduled to launch November 15th in North America and November 29th in Europe and Australia.

Anyone know if you can add friends on battle log from other platforms? And if I have a profile on there now for bf3 and the xbox 360 and I plan on buying a ps4 will I be able to use the same email log in when I get BF4? or do I need to make up a whole new battle log

However I think there will be larger differences a year from now, and when applied to games that are platform exclusive, that's when the PS4 will shine.

I use it heavily as a media server. Though lately i have been getting "Corrupt Data" while trying to watch movies stored on my computer

You should be able to use the same email but I doubt you'll be able to have friends on different platforms.

And as for platformers, I have never really played Assassin's Creed. So, don't know much about it.
I'll be way more hyped if Gran Turismo was coming...
