Fuck guys, NASCAR may not be Formula 1, but it's a HUGE sport in this country. I won't be doing the 500 mile oval races, but I'm glad it's in there. If nothing else, it'll be fun driving those cars around the road courses. Also, the cars aren't much different from one another so I don't think they had to spend too much time developing them.

Knowing Yamauchi, we might have to win the NASCAB Cup to unlock the F1 cars.

And agreed with the above post, if they want to have all kinds of racing in there, they have quite a bit more work to do - why not have IndyCar along with all associated tracks? Now that would be sweet! Would love to have Road Atlanta, Road America, Mid-Ohio, and Indy, just to name a few. And the new LMP cars would be nice too. Isle of Man, Pikes Peak, they could have some kind of cross-country "Cannonball" type of endurance races. How about go-karts?

Does anyone know if the damage is more than just cosmetic? I really hope you cant just bounce off walls doing 150 and then keep racing. Thats the my main beef with GT

I think I need to inject some "background" into this. I can't speak for the rest of you guys, but I have been a Gran Turismo freak since I read the first article in PSM or Playstation mag or whatever in 1996 or whenever saying Sony was working on this new racing sim. When it came out in 1997, we had a chipped PS that could run Japanese games and of course we got our grubby hands on the first release of GT which was Japanese only. We were ecstatic. Here was the game we were waiting for - we were all fans of the nice collection of Japanese "supercars" which had arrived in the 90's - and here was this REALISTIC game where we could drive all of them against each other. It was glorious. So I come from this "JDM" understanding of GT. Adding NASCAR to the game is pretty much as far to the other side it can get. So there is my dismay.
My brother-in-law turned me onto the original PS1 version (1998 maybe?) and I've been solidly hooked since. GT is the only reason I buy a Playstation, period. I know good and well that Sony wants to sell games but they could've put NASCAR in another package...maybe as an add-on for GT...and left the base game "clean". The flavor of the game ("JDM" as you say but I prefer "international") simply doesn't lend itself to NASCAR-style drudgery. Of course I'll buy it anyway and the latest PS3 and controller to match; I just hope the rest of the game is awesome enough to warrant slogging through the NASCAR sections.

ok so how about that Euro truck-cab racing? how about NHRA? they've already gone down the drag racing route, that should be no problem.

different banking, differnt track widths, some are ovals, some tri ovals, some are more like paper clips, i mean if they are going to have cup cars we needs a few cup tracks, maybe ill just stick with NASCAR 2003 on my computer, it lets me load all kinds of tracks, road Atalnta in stock cars is fun.

ruh oh.. we got a NASCAB fan in teh house.
honestly that's kind of along the lines of my rant here, there are already games out there that have specialized in NASCAB racing - I mean, JUST FOR that. why do we need it in GT5.

Polyphony will probably make you buy a new $500 steering wheel to "get the most" out of the game. The wheel will be released along with the game, of course.

the redlines have coincided with the real cars for a while now, since I think GT1. that was one of the great appeals of the game, that the cars were very closely modeled to their real-life counterparts.

Well, a wheel with force feedback is sort of needed to get the most out of the game. I'll never go back to using a pad now that I've got a Driving force GT

Big Block go VROOOM!
Out of curiosity, what have they done with drag racing? Just basic heads-up competition? I wasn't going to suggest Polyphony include professional NHRA cars, but offering bracket racing among the included cars would be a fun and unique feature that probably wouldn't be terribly difficult to do if they already have some basic drag racing functionality.

GT4 has a drag strip down the Las Vegas Strip, but you can only race alone on it

just kinda venting for how they have phased out support for past steering wheels with new versions of the game. i have a force feedback wheel that worked great with GT3, it didn't work with GT4.
