Official Forza2 Thread

Picked this up yesterday.

1)Graphics A/A-
Graphics are an amazing improvement over Forza 1. I am very pleased with the environment, and the cars. The framerate is unbelievable. Its so smooth its kinda wierd at first. Damage is very real and looks believeable. Bumpers fall off revieling under body panels.

2) Sound A+
Engine sounds are absolutely gorgeous. For example, the first car I was able to buy was a Civic hatch. The car, with exhaust and intake, sounds like a real Honda. You can hear the growl of the intake as well as......VTEC!!!!! You can actually hear Vtec engage on the engines. I think thats a first guys! The muscle cars sound like old muscle cars (that you can cam out by the way!!) The Acura RL sounds EXACTLY like an RL should. The ZO6 sound incredible. The 350z/G35 sound crazy real!! Sound is definently A+

3) Physics A+
Physics are the incredible. Theres a tab you can hit while racing that will display real-time tire temp, tire pressure, g force, boost, engine temp, horsepower and torque. Its amazing. Ive never seen anything like it.

I havent really got a chance to play it much but from what I have its a keeper. Any Gran Turismo fans or Forza fans will be in heaven. Simulator fans will probably have an orgasm.

Lets get some time trials going!

Cliff Notes.

I played the Demo, came away pretty impressed. I had been playing PGR3 for a while, but stopped after I got all golds, in order to beat other games I have. Do you think its better than PGR3?

The cars definetely handle differently in both games. My first few drives in the Forza Demo, I came in thinking they would handle just like the cars in PGR3, and I found my self spinning in the gravel frequently. I finally got the hang of it and now I'm kind of scared to play PGR3 again.

Better than PGR3? I wouldnt say better, but different. PGR has TONS mroe details in the track and cars, but lacks in physics. Its a trade off.

Im anxious to see what PGR4 brings in October. Ive heard rain/snow!!

It is an amazing game. I've been playing it in a 1920 x 1200 Gateway LCD at 1900 x 1080 and it looks breathtaking. It runs at 1080p with full 60 frames per second. The gameplay is awesome. I havent been able to put it down. No racing game has held my attention for so long in one sitting since Gran Turismo. It's a very satisfying experience and focuses on racing and modifying rather than what sound track the game has. The sim style play mechanics are a welcome when compared to other arcade racers. I like to be tested when i play a racing game and this game does just that.

Wow I may have to check this game out too then. But I'm willing to bet Blockbuster won't have it in stock.

I'm loving it, I played forza the night before for kicks and forza 2 is a pretty big improvement. It has allot of little rpg aspects built into the car collecting too. I've already lost a bit of my time to it.

But

Got to level 20 last night and decided to do a 45 lap endurace race that had just been unlocked. On the 44th lap the dvd drive stopped reading and I finished the race with no textures. It didin't bother to save the fact that I finished the race. Damned dvd drive.

Just because it's one of my life duties to piss on console racing games...

Is the tire temp just one value or is it inside/middle/outside? Real-time HP and torque seem like just eye candy to me. Any suspension displacement measurements?

I was waiting for you to chime in. You would LOVE this game.

From what I remember its got: Tire wear, tire temp, tire pressure, ALL suspension components are measured individually...ill look again when I get home. Theres like 6-8 different folders of stuff.

I am going to pick this game up this weekend hopefully with the steering wheel, looks amazing after seeing some demos. Will get some time trials on shortly thereafter

Sounds good. If you decide to embark on methodically creating setups, take my advice: don't get overly absorbed in all the data. 80% or more of a good setup can be created just from looking at tire temps & pressure, ride height, and suspension displacements.

true that. you'd be amazed how many people overdue it in the suspension department, causing the car to handle like a brick.

in Gran Turismo lots of times I would make the car handle better by softening the suspension more than you would think.. it just led to better "feel" of the road and the car would sometimes "hug" the corners better. I wonder if that's a programming mistake. or maybe I just drive weird. or what.

I saw that too. With the suspension too firm the car would tend to plow into a turn as if i were trail braking too hard. Then i wouldnt be able to control the angle of exit when throttling out of a turn in a rwd car. It was a nightmare until i softened up the suspension. With the softer suspension settings, the cars handled great. In GT it gave less jounce to the suspension, which was really twitchy with the firm settings. Forza has seemed to cure this. When you have the suspension too soft in forza, you can actually see wheel hop, especially on fwd cars.

I was surprised to see wheel hop actually. Played for like 6 hours last night.

There is NOTHING like a 280z with a Skyline twin turbo drivetrain and all the goodies.

Is everyone using the controller or wheel? Curious to see different opinions.

Dude...The game is sweet in career mode, I haven't even tried an online race yet. IMO this is what will take this game to a new level. I'm still playing MotoGP 06 like crazy and that game only has 150,000 people playing it online. I imagine this game has 500,000 people playing it now. The fact that an online race is available anytime night or day makes it a must have. A lot of people are just doing career stuff now to unlock some things, but once that's done, xbox live is gonna be crazy. Just buy it.

Got the game this afternoon, amazing graphics and the gameplay is far more than I was expecting. No need for me to buy PS3 and Gran Turismo HD anymore.

02cls hit the nail on the head with his review.

Thank you sir!!

Truly is a magnificent game. The graphics probably dont look as good as Gran Turismo will, there isnt as many cars but....I DONT CARE. I promise you the physics are better with this one. The only thing that I think would make this game better would be an in car view and downloadable cars (<--which are coming shortly)

Im sticking to my review a few days later because this is the first game on the 360 I simply haven't been able to put down. There are near 0 flaws.

the thing is Gran Turismo 5 is a while away, so they have plenty of time to overhaul the physics and get it spot on or maybe even better than forza2, and from what i hear GT5 will have an in car view.

anyways i wish my roommate didnt bring his 360 over to his frat house and leave it there, i definately want to try out this game.

I played the Gran Turismo HD Demo and I must say it was amazing, therefore, the final version should be insane. However, going with 02cls if we compare GT4 and Forza (original), Forza had the edge on back them in my eyes.

We'll have to wait and see though, I've always said I'd have both xbox360 and PS3 so it may not be much of an issue when it is GT HD is released.

you guys have to remember Gran Turismo HD was only a work in progress. i was pretty much GT4 upgraded to high def resolution. anyways GTHD got canned and polyphony is now working exclusively on Gran Turismo 5.

Can you still rent these things at a blockbuster like you could back in the day? That might be an option...

GTHD also only had 1 car on the track at a time. forza has i believe as many as 8.
the screenshots online do not do show what forza's graphics really are like, they are far better.
when you play this game you are so into it everything seems real. ill say it again, i love this game.

i just bought a mustang gt and did some upgrades and wow i cant keep this thing straight. i wanna stick to my sti haha

GT5 is supposed to have 16 cars on screen at once. I'm gonna guess that Microsoft will probably set Forza 3 to launch the same day GT5 does...
