yes I did, both of them say I need to run audio wires from TV to the receiver. Mizouse says on the new Xbox I don't need to do that, instead I run an optical straight from the Xbox to the receiver.

You currently have rca running from the ps3 to the receiver. You don't need to do that anymore if you go from tv to receiver. So the total cables you need to connect ps3 and 360 would be 3.

ps3 to tv (hdmi)
360 to tv (hdmi)
tv to receiver (this cable can be rca or optical, whatever you prefer)

your current configuration calls for 4 cables:

ps3 to tv (hdmi)
ps3 to receiver (rca audio)
360 to tv (hdmi)
360 to receiver (optical)

And, since you don't have an optical cable at the moment, you can use the rca audio cable that you have now to connect the tv to the receiver. When you do get the cable, plug it in the tv and receiver.

I'm kind of weirdly anal about this stuff - if it's possible, I would rather have the audio go straight from the game system to the receiver, than go from the system to the tv, and then to the receiver. I don't really mind the extra cable or having to switch the source for PS3 or Xbox. So, if I can setup the Xbox audio straight to the receiver, I will. Thanks though!

yeah. will see how it works, I notice these days lots of times I'll settle for something that works (and I'm happy with), even if there is a "better" option out there. I think you can run digital audio out the PS3 (and my receiver will accept it) but I don't have that setup. This is because, I'm happy with the audio as it is. This is more a product of me being lazy, than anything else. lol

meh, the 1st generations were doing it straight out the box for some iirc.. it had nothing to do with time..

the new ones are designed completely different... there is no reason why they would use the same internal design on a new console... afterall, it ended up costing them lots of money in the end..

with every console.. SOME are going to be defective.. but nothing like the wave of bricked consoles the first time... factory defects will happen, and im sure most people will blow it out of proportion.. but thats life...

im gonna go ahead and vouch for the new ones as being rock solid... its an educated guess of course.

I've heard the new ones run much cooler and quieter. I guess when it comes to electronics, the cooler the better.

no, but im a firm believer in actual numbers.. i dont follow the hype of forums/youtube.

i have had 3 successful 360's that never crapped out.. and i've had one given to me that broke in a month... im not a blind fanboy, i know they fail.. but not as much as people seem to think...



the elites/special editions had a MUCH better survival rate....

granted there were less of them sold.. but from my experiences they were a huge improvement over the 1st gen 20GB...

the original consoles had about a 16% failure rate compared to the 3-5% with the "updated" consoles..

thats a pretty big improvement.. (although 1 in 20 consoles failing is still not a good number)

but 5% is not much worse than PS3's claimed 2-3%...

I'm on my second 360, but my first one lasted for years (5 I think) and got dropped more then once. One time it was in a padded carry bag and fell when I opened the car door.

My Xbox is freezing on me. I was playing MW2 and it just froze up, so I reset it and played L4D2 for a while. After about 10 minutes it froze, I restarted and it now it freezes up during the Xbox animation but I can see it booting up. I think the video card is fried or something, because even though the video stops I can see the lights for the controllers come on.

So yesterday I took my two nieces to the Citrus Park Mall where they have a demo of the Kinect going on and we got to play with it. There may be a demo going on at a mall in your area too so google it. What's cool is that most malls only have the Kinect demo for a few days or a couple weeks at the most while this mall is having the kinect demo for almost two months.

Anyways, I went and played it and it was pretty cool. I've already seen the videos of it so I knew exactly what to do and didn't have a learning curve but it was interesting watching the other kids at the demo use it. I think it was odd for them because this is the first time a gaming system knew if you weren't doing the right move or not. Like on the wii you can play bowling, tennis or golf while sitting on the couch with your hands down your pants. With the kinect if it tells you to make this shape with your body it knows if you do it or not.

I had my niece record a video of me playing the Kinect for the first time. This is the yourfitness game and in it the placed these "virtual" blocks in front of me and I had to punch them and when I did they shattered and another block on the other side of me appeared. So I'd punch left, right, left, right, left, right and then a block in the middle which you'll see at the end I figured out I should kick that one instead of punching at it. After watching the video I realize I could've kicked or kneed the lower blocks too instead of doing low punches. My punches are kindof lame as you'll see, I was supposed to punch out in front of me like a normal punch but I was doing some around the side punch which sometimes didn't work cause I was supposed to be punching out in front of me. If I did it again I would punch normally but did I put up a mean set of fists you can't get through that shit!! Anyways here's the semi-embarrassing video:

I also played the arcade racing game and I kicked it's ass, I used my Gran Turismo/Forza skills and came in first. In the racing game you put your hands out in front of you like you're holding a steering wheel and then turn it to steer. If you move your hips in a big motion to the left or right then the car will drift and if you pull the "steering wheel" to your chest for a few seconds and then give it a big push forward than it does a turbo boost. It was pretty fun. I think Microsoft recorded me playing the racing game so I may end up in a commercial

Another demo they had was two player ping pong which I watched a couple kids play, also they had the MTV dance jam game which another kid was playing, he didn't look like he was having fun cause there was a crowd of people around him and he seemed kinda embarrassed to be dancing in front of these people.

I woke up today and was kinda sore, WTF! I think it was from playing the Kinect and a busy night at work.

I played the playstation move at bb the other day. that was pretty cool. it actually had depth unlike the wii. don't have a ps3 though.

I assume the kinect will be similar.

From what I hear from people who've played the move and kinect the kinect is waaaay better than the move. The move is a glorified wiimote and the kinect is full body motion capture with voice recognition

Im gonna swallow my pride here and apologize for my stern defense of microsoft.

My $400 halo reach xbox has died today.. A mere 28 days after purchase.

Gamestop is replacing the whole setup + $50 in store credit..

I cant believe it actually crapped out though.


No red rings.. Just memory loss.. Game sounds stopped and wont read disc.

my consoles are ALWAYS horizontal..

i would highly suggest doing this as im positive it had nothing to do with my consoles failure.

this is the first console that i have bought NEW that has went out on me.
they are always well ventilated, never disturbed, and dusted weekly along with the rest of my entertainment system.

i got unlucky i suppose. but thankfully my Local gamestop is taking care of me swiftly.. and thank the holy ghost that i have another xbox still in the house to play in the meantime

the console will work the same yes..

the downfall to vertical is the risk of Disc being inserted improperly/jammed in the console. and along with that damaging of the disc.

it is also much easier the console to be knocked over and damaged by kids/pets/tripping on wires etc.

there are zero downfalls to the console being laid horizontal...
