so far my original launch 360 has been to the repair center 3 times, once for dvd rom problem then 2 rings of death.
i also have a 360 arcade i got for the hdmi port, now it seems like the hdmi port is the source of the problem for E 74. and this is the 1st time its been out there.

Thnaks Miz. So I go to 'My Xbox', select the 'Video Library' option correct?

I got that working in that I can see the folders and files on my PC just fine but they still won't play as it says not supported.

The movies I published in movie maker using the Xbox option play fine. As do all the MPEG 4 clips.

Do you have divx player? I had the same problem, then I downloaded divx player for my PC and it installed the proper codecs. AVIs play great through the video library.

Yup, I had some Top Gear avi's on a USB key and they now play fine. Before I played them it said you need the update and it went and got it. No such message for these ones.

Which I guess means the Xbox just doesn't support them.

Your 360 probably had the update. After it installed the update it was fine.

Apparently you need a Fall 07 update for the 360 to play AVI's.

Maybe I should wait longer... Mine just seems hung. The power button doesn't respond all the time either when hung, I have my Xbox programmed on my Harmony so I use that to shut it off. Glad I'm not the only one... Hopefully I don't have to swap my Xbox.

+1 on HDMI's wonkiness. God forbid it gets disconnected. Then you gotta reset everything sometimes.

Nope, I still can't play the home movies that are in an AVI format.

But I've given up. I have them all burned to DVD so I'll just use those.

I might go HDMI if I get a 50"+ TV, but component looks awesome on both the 360 and PS3.

I'd say only go HDMI if you upgrade/purchase a receiver that does TrueHD/DTS-HD. If not, then just stick with component even on a new TV.

I can too, like I said, its just the home movies that don't work.

I can just hook up the PC to the TV with a VGA cable if I really need to anyway.

oohh thats what you meant by home movies, where are these home movies coming from?

probably the 360 doesnt support the codec that your camcorder/camera is recording in.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I've tried video from 2 different camcorders and same thing.

If I publish it in "Format for XBox 360" its fine. But I can't do that with the old video anymore.

Xbox 360: 120GB the cheap way

Rock Band has totally eaten my 20Gb drive, and so I tried this out:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=660096

This will corrupt some saved games (like Rock Band 2), but otherwise,
it works great. I can live with that, for saving $100 or so.
It does kinda suck losing all my high scores on RB, but uhhh, oh well.

I got the hard drive from newegg.com for $55.
Finally some breathing room to install games to disk!

So I think it finally bit the bullet. Got the red ring of death. Now what? Do I lose all my saved games?

Its great on netflix depending on the connection that you have. We have FIOS at home and you can't tell the difference between a regular television hd channel and a movie streaming

Just buy a hard drive and HDMI cable. Get the HDMI from monoprice.com for like $7 shipped. The Elite is the top of the line with HDMI, 120GB hard drive, some games, and it's black. But it's over $400.

question regarding netflix... is the regular account and the XBox account the same? in other words, if I sign up the regular account, do I get to use the XBox netflix too? or is it completely different?
