Favorite Retro Game?
If you like the old Galaga games, Galaga 90 on Turbo Grafx 16 is great.
It's worth getting a TG16 emulator just for this game.
BTW, a hacked up original XBOX is great at playing emulators.

Well the First and Second books (Lord of the Rings, Two Towers) were made by Interplay. They got great reviews but didnt sell well unfortunately. So the Return of the King sadly didnt come out.
Here is a review:

The SNES version SUCKS, get the PC version. It can be found on various sites. The Underdogs might have it. If not, I've seen it around the torrent sites. Music and sound were quite good. Combat was traditional RPG style. Hit points, strength etc. What I liked was that you could do things a little differently than the movies, so you had a few choices now and then. The story, lore and such were quite involved. The game itself is HUGE. A massive world and lots of characters, sidequests and neat items you can pick up.
They're from 1991 or so. You might have sound issues though Dosbox or something similar should be able to fix it.

loved it. havent heard that name in eons, thanks for the flashback.
I convinced my dad to buy my computer in 1989 for the sole purpose of playing King's Quest IV. It was an AST 286/10 with 1MB RAM (I didn't figure out how to enable the extra 384K using EMM until several months after I got it, boy was I ecstatic!) VGA (1MB Paradise video card, top shelf! After I enabled the extra 384K I was able to use 640x400x256! WOW
), 5.25 and 3.5" HD drives, 40MB hard drive, Practical Peripherals 2400 modem, 14" Zenith ZCM-1490 flat-screen CRT (a beauty!), and an HP Deskjet printer. It cost over $4k lol.

Srika, we basically had the same computer back then
Mine was a Leading Edge (dunno if that was something local to New England or what) it had a "dual" boot DOS/GeOS and of course, the turbo button..
Every Christmas, I got Sierra games, plus their magazine/catalog. The content and quality of some of those games is just incredible.
My Dad had a 486 when they first came out (late 89 or early 90 I think), I remember his work paid for it though. Cost them over $5000

Ok, I looked up what my computer was..
Leading Edge D2 (they were Daewoo parts but the company was in Massachusetts)
This was a 1988 model:
80286 10 mhz
65 megabyte hard drive
VGA monitor :bigpimping:
$2495 <---
I later got a CD-Rom drive, it was over $600

dang you had 65MB's!!!
my HD was partitioned, 30mb on C: and 10mb on D: for some reason. I didn't realize there was a D: drive until several months later, you could not believe the wonderment when I found the extra space. I had always thought I had been duped. crazy yours was 286 10 too lol.
yeah my first cd burner was 600 something. .. lol 2x write, Sony CD-caddy what a POS. burns were successful like 50% of the time. had that on a Dell XPS 166 MHz 2GB hd 32MB ram machine.. in the middle was an IBM 486SX25 with a 253MB hd and 4Mb ram.

). 8088 that had a 'turbo' mode, i.e., ran at 6.77 Mhz vs the standard 4.77 Mhz. It had a full 640 Kb of RAM and the hard disk was twice the normal "IBM XT" size -- 20 MB. Beautiful CGA graphics and an amazingly fast (for the time) Hayes 300 baud modem. Hard to believe that was nearly 25 years ago -- damn I'm old.
im thinking of PC games now..
another OG game I totally loved was Battlechess. Flight Sim 3.0.. and above of course.. hell and below too.
Anyone remember ""Vette!" - it really was the precursor to games such as GTA. Free roaming of city streets. Falcon.. one of my favorite flight sims was EF2000 tho. really nice. Papyrus IndyCar Racing.. loved that, you could make your own car graphics, I did a whole team of my favorite music groups, put all their logos and such on each car.. god I wasted so much time lol..
used to play a friend online with modem-to-modem, god that was bunk lol. Deluxe Paint II... another reason I wanted the computer..
Populous.. great game.. damn I want to play it.. Dark Reign.. big time-consumers tho.

Wow, I would have *killed* for a 286! If you ignore the Trash-80 and TI/44, my first 'real' computer was one I built from scratch for about $2200 (I actually took out a loan to build it

Imaginary rep points!
Anyone else remember Ultima Underworld?
One of the BEST RPG's for the PC ever. Non-linear just like the Elder Scrolls series.
Full 3D gameplay in 1991
Quite realistic too. You had to sleep and eat. If you slept on a bed or bedroll, you obviously slept better. Food/drink would be described for you as to how fresh it was. Torches could run out. You could MAKE new items by combining them. Flask of oil + stick = torch
Torch + ear of corn = popcorn
Now in terms of living off the land.. Fishing pole + crossbow + big supply of bolts + invisible spells = unstoppable

KQ3 FTW!
Seriously this thread brings back some good memories!
Anyone every play Street Rod and Streed Rod II? I loved that game! Buy an old beater, bolt on some kick ass parts and drag for pinks!
In 1989, my best friend has his dads old 8086. The thing was a PoS but it was really my first experience with the power of a PC lol. In 1990, all I wanted was a computer. My grandparents dropped a few K and got me a brand new HP Vectra 386/20 (sx, no math coprossesor
) It came with 1MB and I installed an additional 1MB that my mom bought separately. I remember sitting on the kitchen floor in just my undies trying to install that $100 SIMM.
Ahhh, that was the day I was truley hooked and have never looked back.
Good times!

I thought I was the $hit back then haha. Until I broke it and had to figure out how to fix it before my dad got home.
That very scary experience was how I became a PC/Mac Tech and how I began tinkering with building computers. Those were good times for sure!

Thanks Juliet. Because of you, I'm dusting off my NES and SNES. I've got some rekindling to do.
My question to everyone on AZ is....
What was your trick to get your old Nintendo working?
We used to stick the cartridge in an jiggle it. That usually got our system working.

I just remembered .. I played Chrono Trigger for so many hours that my SNES refused to play anything else.
If I popped another cartridge in, it would just show purple and black lines on the TV .. Put CT back in, and it would play happily.
Damndest thing ever.
