Damn.... PS3 left on...
Alright, so I got on my PS3 last night to download a demo, I had to go to class in a bit so I checked "turn off system after download is complete"
So anyways, I just sort of assumed the thing would turn off. It's always done it before. However I guess my internet connection crapped out for a bit, so my PS3 didn't get shut off. Hell, I dunno what really happened, but since my internet is always crapping out on me, I figured that would be the most probable.
Anyways, the system didn't get turned off, so I go up to the thing a little earlier, and it's still running.... I let it finish the download/installation (about 2-3 minutes), then the system shuts itself off. So the thing was on for almost a solid 24 hours. The weird thing is that the console isn't even warm. I know with my other consoles, they get pretty warm if they're left on for awhile.
So just so I know, and can stop being so paranoid, did I potentially burn anything out with the thing? I figured I'd play it safe and let the thing cool for a little while before I check to see if anything got fried.

probably good to go. i cant remember how many systems i've left on since they didnt have save back in the day haha.
you might want to set the option to turn off after some hours, i think i set mine to 1 or 2.

Guess I didn't...but yeah it just reminded me of my Nintendo systems. If I left them on for a few hours or so, the AC adapter gets pretty hot. My Xbox gets pretty warm, too. It also reminded me of loooong ago when I used to live next to these guys who would literally spend about a dozen hours playing video games. Apparently the AC adapter for their SNES actually started melting... left small black puddles on the carpet, according to them.

When my brother and his roommates first got a PS2 back in the day, they were either too broke or cheap to get a memory card. So they left it on for a month straight I think without turning it off until they finally got one. Don't remember if it was fine afterwards or it took a crap, but hey, if it lasted a month....

Theres a college I think MIT that uses a room of PS3's as there server backbone. Overnight is perfectly fine for this work horse.

Dude, have you ever played an endurance race in the Gran Turismo 2? My PS1 use to stay on for 2-4 days straight. The PS3 will not get warm if left on, especially while downloading. It really doesnt have to process anything significant. It acts like a computer at that point and just stays idle. The 360 on the other hand would probably explode into a million tiny pieces.

My wife has left mine on for a whole week. She couldnt figure out how to turn it off after watching a movie.
it stayed on the whole week while i was out of town. Your fine.
After a few days of trying to figure out how to turn it off, you'd think she would've unplugged it.

I'm only chiming in since I did so many temperature experiments with my 360. After a mere 2 hrs, my 360 gets to maximum temperature and gets no hotter, whether on for 3hrs or 40hrs. Of course just make sure you have all your cooling vents clean and with enough ventilation.
Shoot I literally almost never turn off my PC, like maybe 3 times a year.
edit; damn fever, that took like 5 edits I feel like crap
