Buying a broken 360 (red lights?)
How can an Ebox be fixed and how much does it cost? Someone in my neighborhood has a 360 with the red circle and wants 80 bucks for it with 2 controllers. What would I do to get it fixed?

Worth it imo. Thats $67.50 saving per hour on a xbox that'll last a while, if u get it working.

Depends on what is wrong.
Here is how to diagnose it:

So, where can I go to see what I need to do this? Is it on MS's website? Do I need to have the receipt or anything? For 80 bucks (negotiable) maybe its worth it.
I played 360 for the first time the other day, GRAW 2, and I am hooked, but I dont want to shell out 400 right now for a new 360.

Actually Your Saving $120 not $270, and thats after 4 Hours of Labor
Core = $300 - $80 for XBOX - $100 Parts = $120 Savings for buying a Used Unreliable System
Thats not a gurantee it will last either, it might crap out on you, I know because I know tons of people on XBOX Forums, who have had 3-4 XBOX's Replaced but since they got extended warranty they didnt care.

Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX, Tell them you have a Problem with your System, Warranty is 12 months so they will say You have to pay, and ask them how much.
They Might just replace it with a Refurb that might crap out again!
$80 + $150 = $230, Save $70 over a Core, $170 over a Premium

if it does, thats still a cost savings of $220 (you didn't consider the cost of the second controller) for the premimum, $120 for core.

Hopefully mine won't suffer that fate, but I'm still not going to assume that all xboxs are bad.

The Three Red Lights are due to the heating Problem, and People are still having them, theres people from Dec 2005 WHose Consoles have never had Problems, but theres people with 1-6 Month Old Systems that are Having Problems, but its REALLY REALLY RANDOM
I think as long as the unit is well ventilated, it should be fine.
Now if they make a black cooler like the ones that are out right now so that it matches the elite, i'd pick one up to keep it even cooler.

You are right, it is not fair to say all. Just like how all Yugo's weren't bad cars, I am sure there are a few still on the road

But there is certainly a fairly high failure rate for 360's. And whatever the problem, they seem incapable of fixing it. And I say this from personal experience. My 360 was manufactured in 11/05 and lasted until 3/07 before the three red rings showed up. I sent it back to MS after paying $150 and waited two weeks. It was fixed and lasted nearly the weeks before the three red rings came back. While I have had to use the magic towel a few times, it is $146 cheaper and my downtime is only 30 mins vs. 2 weeks if I sent it in. I will eventually pick up an elite from Costco.
And my experience is far from being unique. Forums all over the net are littered with threads about people in similar circumstances.
But I still love it
and wouldn't trade it for a PS3 or Wii.

As they swith to the smaller (65nm) processors, it may help

That is definitly a good idea, and I don't want to scare you into thinking that they all fail or that even most fail. But it is a real possibility.
You guys do know the New Elite has a new Motherboard, They have all been failing, even people who had Ones VERY VENTILATED, there are people hooking up fans to the systems.
But the New Elite should solve the problems
There was a side-by-side comparison by Llama.com which shows the Elite and Premium/Core have different mobos.
If you read the article, it goes on to explain that they've implimented a solution to fixing the 'mobo flexing under intense heat' issue.
Link~

This is the GIF they made of the two mobos, the Premium/Core mobo has the short(er) AV output on the top-left hand side of the board, the other mobo is the Elite.[/QUOTE]

Great FIND Man, Future seems promising, with the New Cooling Hardware and 65 nm Chips, looks great
6 month and still going strong. I dont know why the ps3 fanboys come in and bash the 360 because of the ps3's lack of quality games.
Ps3 will get better but it lacks good online service and games. Sorry.
