Spoiler, it ties the McLaren F1 for the highest "Doug Score" ever given to any car/truck/SUV.

I saw this the other day. This guy sounds like Emo Phillips…but annoying.

and he talks how amazing it is to vent the windows from the app…my 17 X3 was able to do that…Tesla’s climate control in the app is the best. I would be shocked if Rivian doesn’t have the same.

other than that he does a very thorough walk through and it was worth the watch.

I test drove a Polestar 2 today. I came away impressed but it's a bit too small for me.
What I liked
1. Showroom experience. Friendly sales people. They gave me a proper sales pitch of all the various option packages. The test drive was great. The rep showed my wife and I how everything worked and we went on a very nice lengthy drive. No selling pressure.
2. Built like a Volvo, felt solid, no rattles, no panel gap issues.
3. It has standard controls for mirrors, wipers, and air vents. I also liked that it had a speedo where you would expect to find a speedo.
4. Blind spot monitor indicator in the side mirrors, rear cross traffic alert, birds-eye view camera.
5. Drives nice, I purposely hit as many bumps as I could and it was fine. Acceleration was more than I would practically need. Steering good enough for my needs.
6. I liked the adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. I don't think it would have phantom braking issue since it's right out of Volvo's playbook.
7. Regenerative braking is adjustable. Full (one pedal drive), mild, none. This can be set as part of driver profile. My wife liked it off, I liked full.
8. Carplay
9. The local Volvo dealer would service it.

Dislikes
1. Too cramped for me, I'm 6'5". Smaller inside than my old 2012 Camry. I did not like that the arm rest on the door was not very wide and I didn't really have good access to it since I push my seat back pretty far. The armrest is something I use a lot and as silly as it sounds, I think that's my deal breaker.
2. Comes with summer tires. Of course they said the fix for that is they could sell me all-seasons.
3. I wish it offered more range.

Surprises
1. They had some new ones in stock, I could have brought one home today.
2. Offering $1k off MSRP (supposedly it ends today, but I bet not)
3. The follow-up txt I received made it seem like they were willing to negotiate on in stock ones.

If I wasn't a giant, I may have brought one home. I'm kind of bummed that the Model Y doesn't have some of the features I listed above.

Didn't know Volvo dealers could service them. the closest Polestar dealer I'm aware of around here, is in Austin, about 3 hours away.

I don't know if all of the Volvo dealers can service them. The Polestar showroom i went to didn't have a service center. I asked about that and they said the Volvo dealer a few miles down the road could service it.

$75K is probably going to the cheap single motor variant. I'm ready to place my deposit on Oct 12, and I'm already preparing myself for it to be $100K+ for the dual motor performance pack.

I picked up a Kia EV6 today. I was able to buy it off the lot for MSRP. I'm amazed how much room I have in this thing. I like that it's an EV that happens to have normal car stuff. The ride is softer than I expected, but not sloppy, which I like.

Congrats! I was super impressed with it when I drove one - I thought it was the best value going right now. Unfortunately the seat didn't hit me right (I have a bad back) but outside that was a nice ride.

I just had one as a rental in Philadelphia this weekend. I'll do a review and my thoughts in a few days. This does make me think getting one may not be a bad idea.

Congrats! The EV6 looks awesome, will be interested to hear what you think about it and the public charging infrastructure!

I'm guessing you have a charger at your house already?

Yes, I 220/50amp (40 usable) circuit. I probably won't use public charging very frequent since most of my travel is local.

Commercial I did a couple of months ago.

Their glass roof use that electrochromatic smart glass. Which is something I wish Tesla did. To be able to change the opacity of the glass would be awesome.

Nice! That should be plenty for daily use. Will you be doing any longer trips with this or is it just for around town use?

One surprise with the 2023 US EV credit, Tesla Model Y is only considered an SUV if it has the 3rd row option.

Also there is no MYP with a 7 seat option and the M3LR is more than $55k base price.

Another surprise; the Lyriq and MME aren’t considered SUVs at all.

I wonder what this means for the ZDX and Prologue.

First I'm hearing about this company. This product is really fucking cool and a GREAT way to get fast chargers out there as quickly as possible.

Anyone looking harder at Tesla after the recent price drop? Even I’m looking at a Model 3 or Y now, but given that I’m happy with my RLX Sport Hybrid, I’m not in a rush to trade out.

I suspect there is something new coming, hence the price drops. Or…Tesla is trying to get the drop on its competition, which is cranking out more EVs now.

My parents just picked up a (base) RWD Model 3, and having driven if for the past week, as much as it pains me to say I have to admit that it's a hell of a good value. $44K, $7500 federal tax credit and $2000 CA rebate = $34.5K, and for that price it's tremendous. It took me a few days to get used to driving it, but now that I'm adjusted it does some things just remarkably well.

Performance isn't even that bad. It may be the slowest model, but 5.8s to 60 is still pretty quick for its price point. At speed, it's actaully faster than the numbers would suggest. 0-35mph is kind of tepid, and it feels like it would be a 7s car. However, 35-80 pulls much harder, like I'd expect of a 5s car. It feels like they're definitely limiting power at lower speeds, maybe to prevent the rear tires from getting shredded?

My guess it's this. Boost sales to get the stock recovering.

They had to lower prices to sneak underneath the MSRP caps for the tax rebates. Otherwise the competitors would have eaten them alive. Fun part is how all this highlights their greed the past couple years.

At some point we will have to replace my wife's car (which is driven maybe 1000 miles a year) and will probably go full electric as opposed to plug in hybrid. I like the Luicid line up but likely want to see how the next few years plays out for the company. The Porsche is also something I looked into before getting the curruent plug in but the range is pretty much the opposite of the Lucid. Tesla isn't on the radar.

In all seriousness, a Tesla is still a good car. It's the best route into EV ownership since it makes adapting to that way of driving super easy, much more so than other competitor models do, and with the new price points it becomes a really tough argument for why wouldn't you do it. Even more so on the used market.

A friend of mine just traded in his 2020 Jetta GLI for a used ('21 I think) 3 Long Range. He drives about 20-25k miles a year for work and so far he absolutely loves the the 3.

I'm really hoping in the next 5 years, or maybe when this gen starts getting refreshed, we see ranges in the 4-500 mile range (that don't cost $120k......). I'll be definitely in at that point. I know the model 3 extended range gets up there but I'm not in the market for a smaller 4 door sedan. Although if I wanted one right now it woudl be the BMW i4 M50.

I was willing to overlook the lack of storage space in the i4 M50 up until I realized BMW uses brushed motors, which will require maintenance. Pretty much every other EV on sale today uses brushless.

Agreed. It's things like this that feed my perception that while what's on the market right now is a good start, the next evolution are going to be the ones that will really take off. Maybe the ones outfitted with SSBs...

It has to do with qualifying for the tax credit, keeping yup with competition, and trying to entice people after Elon's twitter debacle.

All that said I still love my model Y, and I havent been as in the know with car news since getting it. Im content for the time being.
