Was driving to work this morning and heard a loud ass bang.. Thought a boulder hit my windshield but apparently it was only a pebble... maybe. But it did its damage to the hood

I was also thinking part out. Maybe take a total loss from insurance if they'll do it.

If you can scratch it with your nail, it will not buff out.

Just a thought: Fill it in with touch up paint and then smooth it out some with polishing compound.

Downside: You'll still be stuck with the salvage title.

FWIW: You may want to visit any New car dealer, and ask the used car Manager for the name and number of the Tech they use to address issues like this. Normally, most Dealers have a Tech on call, to fix this type of damage. Can this scratch be made to disappear completely, PROBABLY NOT. Your nick appears to be quite deep, so almost no matter what you do, it will always be there. However, many of the paint repair Techs can do wonders with problems like yours, at minimal cost, as compared to a re-spray.
