Good way to get rid of broken fender clips?

Those black plastic splash guard clips that keep fking breaking when you try to pop them out. I have one that must have taken some abuse in the weather, somehow. Crumbled up like a stale cracker when I tried prying it off.

Anyone know of a good way to get it out of there? No way I can fit anything in there to pry it off now.

If I don't care about adding another rattle to the car's symphony of sounds I just knock it through with a punch. If I do... well that hasn't come up yet.
