Well...the S2000 needed more doors, more driven wheels, and a lot more torque...

My accountant would have to agree with such an expenditure and, as of now, she would not sign off on any such PO. Maybe if we didn't have a kid but here we are.

One other question for you guys. My daily work commute is quite short. I go probably 5-6 miles round trip (half each way) to/from work. I'm guessing that won't be good for a M3, correct?

In terms of cost, are you accounting for installing a charger at home? That tends to run around $1k, from what I've seen (probably heavily dependent on the area and the situation though).
I'd choose the M3 only because I personally don't believe Tesla is worth the cost at the moment and the infrastructure isn't where it needs to be (yet); plus there's a bunch of new EVs hitting the market that are looking enticing. And since it's an M car, resale won't be too crappy when you inevitably get an EV in a few years.

Cost of charger install isn't a big deal. My garage already has 240V 70A sub panel for all the wood I work in there. Would be as simple as adding another 240V outlet, probably a couple hundo at most, less if I DIY the wire run and just let the electrician connect it.

you'll just need to do that commute at 10/10 every day. Just, flat out balls to the wall from the driveway to the parking spot. Giver the beans and it should be fine.

the more you talk the more I realize you really don't need this 3rd car at all.
Jeep is fine and a mile a day, who cares about gas mileage.
it also means we're splitting hairs trying to come up with reason fulfills your needs
since your needs are bs justification for a new toy to begin with

All of our "needs" are bs justification for new toys.
The wall connector itself is $500, unless you're using the the included mobile connector - which doesn't support a 60A circuit and won't charge at the full speed. It's a difference of about 14 miles per hour of charge between 60 and 50A. The gap is even larger if you step down to a 40 or 30A.
I'm waiting for the dealership to meet my terms. They wanted $3500 for a 3yr warranty from date of purchase (so effectively 2yr since it still has factory left) which is absolutely not worth the money. So I asked for $1k additional off price, $1k additional on trade, or a combination of the two, said if they meet that I'll take it. If not, it's time for silent fury.

If both chargers are on a 50A circuit, that's correct. But my point was the wall connector can support 60A, which gives you the full 44. The included charger cannot.
Probably not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but fast charging is one of those features Tesla uses as a claim to fame, so I would sure as hell use it.

I think the fast charging selling point is more useful from a mobile charge standpoint than charging at home.

The charger is part of what would preclude me from EV ownership, at least for now. Not practical to run the cord to the car in the driveway
Also glad I no longer have the Merc, hated parking it outside.

Yeah, I don't have that problem.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure my sales guy has the day off today (which is dumb) so I probably won't hear back until tomorrow unless he's going to check in with work on his day off. I certainly wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

I get I'm demanding but people are entitled to their days off. My guy had one, I did not have a problem with it when I was told that was why he was not responding. BUT, if you are engaged in a project when you take time off it needs to be handed off to a coworker.
I left all the necessary info for all of my pressing tasks last week that people are dealing with. Just because one has time off does not mean the world stops.

Ok, update. They aren't meeting my terms of pricing and aren't going lower.
Also, found out one of my friends, who had a F80 M3 6MT, turned his in from the lease a few months ago and got a M3P. He said, and I quote: You are an idiot if you spend that much money on a 3 year old M3 with that much mileage over a new M3P. His thoughts were the Tesla is in another league from that generation M3 and it's not at all worth spending that much money on a car with that much mileage. If I wanted the novelty of the manual and the engine, I should get an older one with either the same miles or more for a lot less money or get a new generation model because they are a lot better than the old ones even with the fugly face.
Talked to a few other car guy friends that have switched over and they all said something similar. The Tesla is a step change in automotive tech and it would be stupid to pay the same amount for a worse car. Either get an older one for less money or just wait and get one as a fun toy in the future. Manuals may be going away in the new market but used ones will be around for a good long time.
Talked to the wife and she agreed with all of that so I'm thinking I'll just going to stick with my Tesla order.... Also gives me some time to pad the ole bank account for this hit.

You can't go wrong with either imo. Just be ultra picky when the car arrives and go over it with a fine tooth comb. There's bound to be issues, but as long as you mention it I've heard they're good about repairs.

Agreed. I'm going to print off the inspection checklist before I pick it up. I think the reason I had such an issue making a decision is because both options are good but ultimately what my friend said really hit home. The M3 would be the most expensive AND the highest mileage car we own, that's not something that sits well in my mind.

Charging infrastructure is 1000% the reason I went with the Elonmobile. The Mockey, which is arguably better looking especially in GT form, doesn't have that key very important thing.
