No good deed can ever go unpunished ...
As I'm admiring the car again with the new wheel setup ... the B5 has either a sticky rear brake caliper or a dragging pad (scraping sound that varies with speed, already checked dust shields / easy stuff) and I'm getting a slight vibration from the new wheels up front - they have wheel weights so I am assuming they are balanced, but my inner/outer tie rods have been on their way out for some time.
I have all the parts needed to fix ... but time is of the essence.
Never ending project ... the epitome of B5 ownership

The customer's car is coming along nicely.
Motor out:
New motor with manifolds, turbos, coolant & oil banjos, Intake Manifold, Motor mounts, and new gaskets all swapped over.
Only thing left to do is install the wastegate & reference lines, install a new JHM Clutch kit w/ new flywheel, inlets, Y-pipe, Bi-Pipes, attach the harness and a few other small details.
Surprised .. for 140,000 miles, these heads are pretty clean with very little build up.
I don't want to jinx it but, we should have the car done and driving away on Sunday.
If I learned anything on charging for our first customer, we should have agreed on a higher price - I'd say my buddy and I do good quality work since we are very familiarized with the platform
This car came in running like absolute shit and it will never run better when it leaves.

No argument there... Familiarized is probably an understatement

It's been a good run, but I'm putting in some serious consideration on putting the ETH FO up for sale in the next 2-3 weeks. Not really sure what spawned it, but now that the car is running great I figured now would be the best time to exit .
In addition to that, I simply don't have the time I need to keep this car running the way it needs to ... especially as we fast forward a year or two. Few minor things to fix, but I don't think it's out of the question of getting my initial asking price.
As far as replacement (some of you may know already ), I'm considering going to the dark(er) side. I've been getting the itch to get something newer and generally more reliable and I think I found the perfect car for that.
I'll keep the thread updated as I start fixing and when it's sold.

We all know that you miss the S2k, but I don't think a 124 Abarth is gonna scratch that itch...to each their own, I guess.

Currently for sale. We'll see how long it takes!
Lot of likes on the FB Group posts, which is nice ... I just don't know how well it'll fair in the current B5 market.
People are stingy ... even for a clean / well sorted example.

That's a good idea and something I considered prior. Only thing about BAT is I see stock examples going for bigger $$ .. but I don't know what they think about a highly modified one.
If I get the car up to snuff with fixing the LCD screen / axle boot / few trim pieces, I think BAT would be a possibility. I'll play it by ear.

That said, I think your car would do quite well because it is tastefully modified to a point where most people would take a B5 S4 anyway.

Ol' girl hasn't seen service position in awhile
Radiator decided it wanted to start leaking at the top hose connection ... ordered a new OEM unit for $175 shipped, should be here tomorrow.
While the car is apart, I'd like to paint that crusty coolant pipe / Crank pulley ... in addition to that, tie rods / few other odds and ends. I've had some interest in the car but no real follow through.
The longer I don't sell the car, the more I start realizing that throwing a $400/mo payment on a weekend car is making less and less sense ... plus, driving this thing doesn't help that thought either .
At this point, I feel I could go either way ... if somebody came with my asking price cash I would sign the title over ... however, if it didn't sell, I would happily drive and enjoy it

Do you detail that thing in service position?
Our cars are obviously quite different, but my attitude towards selling the Passat is similar. Worst case scenario for me is the car doesn't sell and I keep a totally reliable and perfectly fine car.
Wanting to change cars is fine as long as one realizes the improvement would be marginal in the grand scheme of things.

Not a bad position to be in. A fun car that you enjoy, but wouldn't be sad to let go for the right price.

New radiator came in yesterday ..
Not only the neck of the radiator was leaking, I also noticed some residue on my upper radiator hose. Luckily, the spare motor we pulled out of the customers car has it and is in much better condition than mine is.
Score!
Mounted up in the core support:
Should have this portion buttoned up by the weekend, we'll see how tie rods go ... I hear they're a pain in the ass.
