Little update - Over the last month or so .. I've just been correcting and fixing all of the small stuff.

-Changed oil & oil filter

-Programmed HomeLink

-Mileage adjustment to actual mileage - my original cluster fried due to stupidity. Now reads 140k instead of 172k.

-Replaced most underhood plastics: cowl, fresh battery cover, etc - $15 at the junkyard.

-Installed compass mirror. - $15 at the junkyard.

-Few software revisions

-Re-tooled my toolbag that I leave in the trunk; fire extinguisher, jumper cables, AC Converter, flashlight, all sockets / screwdriver 1/4" drive w/ bits,

Took the GoPro with me last night and recorded a quick 2-4 pull:

Car is now running a bit rich (I think the ethanol mixture has been fubar'd as of late) - I am going to reset trims and fill from my usual station.

Otherwise, pulls nicely from 40-130

I'm coming up on 3 years of ownership in June .. a little more than a month away

Crazy, I've put on 26,000 (15,000 daily driven miles of it in the first year and a half) and the car has been totally transformed from a lightly tuned stock turbo car to upgraded turbos on E85. Power figures went from roughly 220whp to 426whp.

Mileage sits at around 140,500.

Mod list as of 4/26/19

SRI w/ 85MM (Hitachi MAF) w/ custom heatshield
3 BAR MAP sensor
APR Bi-Pipe
Wagner intercoolers
F21 turbochargers w/ oversized inlets @ 24 psi
630CC EV14 injectors
Walbro 450
3" SSAC Downpipes
3" Miltek Exhaust
Clutchmasters FX400 w/ OEM flywheel
USP metal slave cylinder & braided line
Bilstein struts w/ Eibach springs
AWE Drivetrain stabilizer bar w/ hard poly mount
RS4 motor mounts
Stern Transmission mounts
AEM wideband & Glowshift boost gauge
Upgraded compass mirror
SWEDIT Headliner
ECS tuning in-line fuel pressure gauge
Catch-can
Toyguy shortshifter w/ weighed shift knob
Hartmann RS4 DTM 18x8 +35 wheels
Custom tuned by ETSpec on E85
LOTS of maintenance items.

Unopened motor or transmission

Latest set of logs indicates the car does 60mph-90mph in 3 seconds flat.

Overall, this car put me through absolute hell ... but, when the dust settles ... the car is enjoyable AF.

I don't have a ton of kill stories but, I did run a 2015-ish DCT M4 and put 5 car lengths on him from 80-135 yesterday. I am one happy camper.

$10k - 14k will get you a prestine OEM example or a well sorted Stage 3 car. $4k will get you ... well, junk probably

Update for you guys:

I finally got around to ordering a Dragy and seeing what kind of numbers my car could spit out.

NOTE: Dragy isn't going to the track because it's not really comparable to a prepped track surface - understandable. For what it's worth, I've read that the device itself is pretty damn accurate. Maybe within .1 of a second off in some cases. Since there isn't a single 1/4 mile track located in San Diego and the furthest 1/8th mile track is almost all the way in Ramona (35 miles away), I'm not a fan of going to the track due to the potential tow bill and not owning a truck / trailer.

I found a very empty / designated road specifically for this and there are no cross streets, there's a median between me and head on traffic .. it's actually a great spot to test and tune assuming there are no cops there. Best of all, it's flat

Having only launched my car once in the 3 years I've owned it (mostly being scared of breaking something), the device kinda fed my curiosity and made me think - if I built my car to where it can't withstand a few launches here and there, I built it wrong.

With that being said, Dragy reported my first run @ 12.5 @ 119mph with a 2.0 second 60' - not too shabby. 1-2 shifting in a B5 S4 is very difficult to execute quickly due to the amount of drivetrain that's in motion / it being an ancient gearbox, but I did alright.

Having adjusted my launch technique to more on the aggressive side - I cut my 60ft to a 1.9 and the car went 12.1 @ 120mph. My shifting was much faster all around but I'm confident I could cut an 11 second pass if I went into IDGAF and full send it mode

After that, I started feeling bad and didn't want to get greedy ... car withstood the launches really well but I wanted to go home with what I felt like was a win. The biggest take away was my car is in the 120mph ET range ... that confirms that while my car is old, it's able to pick on pretty much anything I run across or at least hold it's own.

As for repairs, I've replaced a auxiliary waterpump sensor o-ring and some light tuning revisions - car is still a bit lean but it's not enough to kill it. Damn ethanol content has been all over the place lately.

Very happy with this POS:

Thanks for reading!

with some good tires and some reinforcement, you will be well into the 11s...

But to be honest, how often do we need to do launches in the real world... 40-100mph is where it is at....

That's a good point, but it's always fun to see what it would do from a dig.

0-60 took 4.1 seconds on the 2nd run ... I'm pretty sure I could cut high 3s with enough abuse

You should! With Haldex, your 60's will be great ..

Any guesstimate on what your car would do ET / mph?

If I had to guess, 108-112mph. Theoretically, I should be able to cut about a 1.8s 60' with my current setup, but the weak link is me I'd be happy to run a 12.9 though. The manual Rs are notoriously hard to drive fast.

*queues Sam, Adam, and Jeremy* You see, DSG is faster because we don't have a 3rd pedal and we're simply superior in every single conceivable way.,

But ... they're right

Launching an AWD manual car is tough in general .... too much revs you'll spin / potentially roast the clutch ... too little and you bog.

You know what's astounding?

I was looking up stats on the new B9 S4 and that thing does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds ... only .1 of a second behind my last run. My car makes 100 more whp & weights 400lb less than the new S4 and it's no more than a bumper behind me on a spirited launch to 60

That shows you what a modern transmission / insta-torque does for you.

And the relentlessly consistent tuning of the DSG

With the mods I have, the R would be an 11.7-.9 car all day with a DSG.

The manual is more fun though

Barum BRAVURIS 3s - 235/40/18 - decent summer tires for the price.

I could upgrade tires but, traction really isn't the issue. If I launch more aggressively I can cut a ~1.8 60' ... that would surely get me a high 11s - the mph is definitely there.

I'm sure I could cut a bit more grip but, 4000+ rpm launches will roast even pilot super sports.

To your original post, I think more bracing would help ... I already have fresh motor mounts, poly transmission mounts, and a drivetrain stabilizer bar.

Only thing left is getting a solid rear differential mount w/ poly bushings and poly motor mounts ... down the rabbit hole we go!

It hasn't caught on fire or been on a tow truck in roughly 9 months so ... I'd say it's been pretty solid.

I just upgraded my AAA package to premium ... 4 x tows for up to 100 miles for an extra $34 a year.

Worth it!

How's the BMW doing? I haven't heard much in your update thread!

When I think of having a fast car I think of the quickness to be determined by a combination of different requirements. Sure running a fast quarter or eighth mile is awesome. But to me the ability to run the cones on an Autocross Course quickly and competitively would be a more important metric. This involves many factors other than brutal horsepower. Suspension, brakes and of course, YOU determine the performance of the car. Just about anyone can learn to drive a car fast going straight down a piece of pavement.
First thing I did on my A3 was a bigger rear sway bar, trans stabilizer mount and new better rotors and brakes. Don't get me wrong, I have a down pipe and plan to go Stage II very soon. Also, the idea of being on the freeway and zipping up to 120 mph. is always fun too.Nothing gives me greater pleasure than beating some redneck on a 5.0 Mustang!
