Television: The Car Show
Starts tomorrow on speed at 10pm est. Check your local listings to be sure though.
Its hosted by Adam Carolla and it rivals Top Gear USA.
Should be a good show to check out.
Autoblog likes the show, as they said the thing that holds it together is the chemistry which is currently lacking but improving in TG usa, which also starts up in a week or two i think.

felt more like watching a documentary on cars.
seemed like the entire 10-15 minutes that i tuned into i was watching a porsche trying to hit 175 on a runway...
will try again next week.

I watched it and laughed more than I did thru the whole season of top gear US. It is definately better than that. No US show will ever compete with top gear UK tho. Matt Farah is the best American car reviewer I have seen so far. Corolla is good also with car stuff and the needed comedy. Dan Neil I am not sure about, he could be the US version of James May, but even by May's standards he is boring and kind of annoying with his salutes and hand gestures. I dunno why John Salley is on the show, he definately isn't a car guy just has money to buy cars.

I watched it-it was just fair. But it is the first episode. Corolla acted like an idiot when he had the NASCAR driver on-he was a jerk to the driver (while trying to be funny).
Next week, they've got something on a Lamborghini on, so I'll try it again.

You can watch it on Hulu; that's what I did. I actually prefer Top Gear US. Like someone else posted, I'm also not a fan of just how carolla projects what he is saying. Guess I'll give it another try though, since I also thought the first episode of Top Gear US sucked as well

Surprised to see all the hate on TGUS. I really enjoyed the show last season. it started off slow, but it defiantely got better. I could never get into TGUK due to my distaste of the host.
I'm hoping I can catch a re-run of this "Car Show" this week.

Surprising thing is that you like top gear us over top gear uk. Besides tanner the us hosts are awful. It lacks humor, and is 100% scripted. I guess being scripted dsnt matter to most tho because people still watch reality shows that are scripted. I don't even get why those repo shows are popular unless people are just too stupid to understand they are all fake.

take out rudledge or however you say his name and ferrera, from TG US
and put in adam carolla and matt farrah in tg us.
Then TG US will be great. The car show has the hosts, but TG US has the better producers

I take my "meh" back, having watched the entire episode. It was OK. I really appreciated the longer news segment. Adam Carolla.....he was simply trying too hard to be a Clarkson. No one can out-Clarkson Jeremy Clarkson.
I'll give it a fair chance, but for now....of the American car shows, TGUSA wins.

yea that jeapordy segment was stupid.
I really liked the news, the 0 to 60 thing. That was nice. Although that nba players comment on the 918 spyder just showed me within minutes of the show that he doesnt belong there.
I'm looking forward to TG US. Autoblog had a ltl thing about it, and they said the guys seemed like they have much better chemistry than before.

I really enjoyed this first episode. So much less scripted than TGUS. I thought it was a little sloppy in certain areas, but overall I was 10X more impressed with this show than TGUS. I'll take lower production value over lame scripted jackassery anyday.
My only true gripe would be how many times can you show a car racing an airplane? Not a very original idea. The segment started off great with the mile run but they had to throw in the airplane which is exactly the kind of cheesy stuff that TGUS does that I was hoping The Car Show would avoid. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue with the show.

yup, I've seen Carolla before, followed him for years. I really think he is overdoing it and needs to pull back a little. It's just not natural to me. Clarkson is simply a natural, or makes it look that way. Maybe I need to Netflix some of Carolla's earlier efforts to judge fully.
Again, we'll see where the show goes. I admit it's good to have shows (plural) for car enthusiasts that are American.
Oh yes, the Jeopardy segment has to go.

I watched it and thought it was ok. I think that, if given a chance, the hosts' personalities can develop a little more and give the show some character. I think they tried some of this with the Rolls Royce segment, which had its moments.
It did seem more genuine to me than the US Top Gear, but that's not surprising. I think covering a LeMons race was a great idea, but they could have done more with it. I wouldn't have minded if, say, they had cut the contest segment and got one of the hosts to take part in LeMons' BS inspections.

Watching it right now on Hulu and I find it boring so far. Just got past the first segment, 0-60 I think they called it. Most of the "news" they talked about was old as hell.

What is John Sally doing on that show? He feels like "the black guy in the room" and nothing more. His presence is just... awkward. I was hoping that he would do okay, but... I also think you can do a car show with 2 guys. Who needs 4 co-hosts?

I think its only fair to give it a few weeks and see if it improves. TG:US did improve as the season went on, and I still have high hopes for that show.
Theres just no way you can duplicate the chemistry that Hammond, May and Clarkson have. They make TG:UK what it is, and we need to stop using that as a measuring stick for automotive shows. I found the premiere of The Car Show to be very boring, but hopefully it rises to the top tier of automotive shows for the US market. You can never have enough witty banter between car guys with great stunts/challenges mixed in.

Im not trying to, but because of that reason alone I dont think its fair to compare other car shows to it. You cant force perfection. It just happens, and obviously not as much as TV producers would like.

What was up with the part where they shot up the Nissan? It felt like they were trying to imitate what the guys on TG:UK might do, like setting fire to or dropping a piano on a Morris Marina.
Same goes for racing a plane with the Porsche. It's been done. And better too.
