RX-8 is slow!!!

went to track yesterday with another member who has a TL-S on board

and there was a RX-8 who tried to bully us in a road course

there was a long 1/4 mile straight at the back end and b4 the straight there's a hair pin corner

for a few times the RX-8 passed us at the hairpin and went on the straight ahead of us, then we started to get our VTEC power working

everytime me and the TL-S were able to pass him at the straight, i thought RX-8 do have more power than me bone stock (225hp vs 238hp) and his car is a manual, there's no way i can pass him so easy with just the headers and intake

but of coz his car is way faster at the corners that we cannot catch up, and it's very tossable

when we are resting at the pit the RX-8 guy came over and asked what we have under the hood and why we are so fast at the straight

he told us the stock manual RX-8 is only making 180hp at the wheels, there's so much powertrain loss that they believe Mazda is making false advertisement on their numbers, even with carbon fibre driveshaft

or is honda underrated their horsepower? we dunno~

in that way which means the RX-8 is just about the same as the RSX-S but a lot more expensive, and RSX is certainly faster as well

The RX-8 produces power different from most cars, it has virtually no torque and is high revving with decent(well for the size of the engine any way) horsepower when highly revved. Having driven a few RX-8's I don't like it, but that's not to say someone else won't. It feels so weird to drive one because the thing just rev's and rev's yet you go no where, its making all sorts of noise and at the end of the day seems a little disappointing.

To be honest I am surprised they are selling as well as they are because the way it drives.

theres no replacement for, oh nevermind.

1.3 liters is small, and like tireguy says, no torque. I think their appeal is in the design. Not a gorgeous car, but unique in its design. It offers a 4 door options to those wanting coupes. the rear bucket seats are cool too.

As you saw, the cars nich is cornering & handling. On straight road it's slow as hell. You have to really keep the revs up when exting the corner to keep your speed up. That's just the way the car is. In order to get decent 1/4 mile times you need to launch at 5K+ rpm.

You have to drive the RX-8 like you stole it to get any of it's power extracted.....I think it has more than 180 at the wheels for a manual car. I do know that the automatic car has less power because of the greater powertrain loss.

RX-8 is not known for its straight line performance anyway.

RX-7 > RX-8

rx-8's are slow as hell in straight line acceleration. They handle great, I too do believe Mazda over stated the HP rating, at first they rated it at like 257HP then dropped that figure to 237HP. I smoked one in my tl w/headers, intake, denso iridiums only.

Thats a fact. They had to buy back all the RX-8s because of this.

still but 180 to the wheels for a manual is horrendous should be about 201-205whp. if 180 is true then Mazda needs to do a lot of work because it's losing power as if it were an auto. the auto's are only 197HP or 148-150whp that is pathetic for a supposed sports car. MT do 0-60 in 6.7 and AT do 0-60 in 9.3 and those numbers are both with great launched from 4-5krpm's. Bring back the RX-7 Mazda w/TT and then I would drool again.

It's definitely very slow in a straight line. I raced one not too long ago in a straight line with my 350Z and I blew it away pretty badly. Not a fan of that car at all
