rockstar143 didn't want to jeepbro but couldn't sell - jeep wrangler TJ

It seems like the Jeep just doesn't stop giving lol. At least the speedo was easy and cheap to fix up though. You might like driving this thing for more than an hour soon enough! Guessing new springs and shocks are in your future, that'll make it WAY more comfortable to drive around.
...and maybe a regear of those axles...

I know people say they don't hold up but I haven't had a big problem with the ride harshness...
If I had the oem suspension I'd be curious to see how it rides in comparison. The re-gear is a no
go...from what I'm reading it's a grand to 1800 to have it done and I read about doing it myself and it's
above my pay grade and I don't have the interest in learning how to do it. That was my driving force
for dropping back to 31's...maybe I still will...31's with stock springs with the 1.5" body lift...
Who knows...

Basic lift kits, especially for a TJ, aren't terribly expensive and I'm sure you could install it in a day or two in your driveway.
Edit: Also, your body lift is nothing more than stuffing your pants with a sock. It's not a functional lift lol.
Yup. Jeep can be fixed with a basic socket set and a pile of rocks to park on.

I love that Jeeps are pieces of shit.
it makes them easy to fix on the side of the road with almost no tools.

Sam, I'm with you...some issues...body lift was done long ago and I'm not too certain on integrity of the bolts holding it in place.
Overall, I think I have a 4" lift between body and suspension which was to accommodate the 33's. I saw a TJ with 33's on a 15 of
my same Mickey rim yesterday and BOY does mine look better. Had the patagonias too...
Anyway...I have a rough country 2 inch lift as it is and it looks fairly new so I guess my point was I don't see a reason to spend more
money for a marginal upgrade (I'm too cheap to go fox with reserve reservoir setup).

If I were to do mine from fresh, I'd go with a more basic setup than I have now. There's zero need for remote reservoir shocks unless you're desert running or constantly bombing down washboard roads. It just looks cool is all.
I deserve this though I hardly bought it at a discount, it was still a rather large chunk of change lol. And then I went and added a ton more into it with all the mods.

Naw...those days are gone...Aside from sentimental value of having known the black one since the show room floor...
it wasn't and isn't a better car than the blue one and realistically it's been owned by someone else for 3 years now.
I am not sure...I won't keep 2 of the same car though...meaning 2 reasonable daily driving sedans...notice how pretty
much none of my cars that I own at any given time are good at the same thing? So either I'll realized the DCT Audi is
too good to let go for daily duties or I'll find myself craving the manual in a Honda. Either way I'll flip one and move on.
Or sell both and get a manual S5!??! LOL...2020 is a new year...let's see where the road takes us!

@SamDoe1 work commuter! the gearing being close to correct has made highway driving less of a guess...I teeter on 4th or 5th
gear to manage 65 to 75 mph on the way to work depending on the headwind. Something about this rugged bitch that really
reminds me of my 3rd girlfriend.
Anyway...just reminding you we are in fact, jeep bros.

Thanks dude...
I'll have to give it another look but I recall I almost did and figured out the grills only go on one way...or something to that effect...that was why I left it.

For sure that's what happened.
@SamDoe1 I'm sure you don't hear this anywhere else so it'll sound a bit foreign...
but you are right...I just flipped the grill on the KC...I'll give upside down a shot this afternoon.

I thought those just unsnapped off the front. You can get different lens covers for them too if you want to go with different looks. Are those LED or halogen bulbs?
Ugh I miss Jeep modding...need to plan out what I want to do next. Jeep hasn't moved in the past two weeks even with the cheap AF gas.

@SamDoe1 So you were half right...
the grills do, in fact, unclip and go on upside down...
but bumper bracket design doesn't allow clearance to mount under where they are.
I WAS able to move them down to where the winch is supposed to go though and
it does look more balanced. They are halogen with yellow film. I'll snag some pics
and re-route the wiring tomorrow. Also I had bought a starter for my Dad's Cherokee
but since the Quarantine I figured I might as well tempt fate and throw it on the Wangler.
Not bad, OEM Delco for $72 from amazon. My starting seemed a little "tired"...took a
lot to crank...now it turns over in one try.

If it was a matter of just opening the pumpkin and slapping the gear in, I probably would...but I have zero experience with backlash and spacing and pulling axles.
A 3.73 or 4.10 would probably be perfect though...
I was next to an older TJ on what looked like 31's on the highway...I cruised next to him for a while...I looked over to see what gear he was in...4th...and what speed
he couldn't get over 65 Then I thought shit, mine is healthier because if I don't have standing water or wind against me I can do 70 in 5th...or 75 in 4th if I have
to.

@1StGenCL Dude...just having the speedo be correct changed the experience to me! Made it more tolerable.
I was netting 150 miles to a tank...which is abysmal so I never commute to work in it...but I started driving it chill
and I just hit 130 to a half tank and realize that wringing out the gears to 5K with heavy wheels is what was killing
my fuel consumption in it.
Ordered some new adjustable door straps...my stock ones let the door go too far out and hit the mirror bracket I put on
for doorless times.
new starter, new oil pan, new filter, new battery, new brown dog engine mounts...shit...this thing is brand new.
here @SamDoe1 I'll clean up the wiring for it...thanks for the push...I had thought to do it but gave up when I saw it wasn't
a quick swap last time. It does look better not having such an overbite.
been rockin the no spare look since I need to figure out why it's not holding air

Nice, I keep debating on ordering some real suspension and a nicer front bumper. If my mileage wasn't so terrible, I'd go 35s but I think it would put me in the 12 mpg range, which would suck.

Since switching jobs and losing my company car, the jeep is my daily but I work from home. In the two years I've had it, I've only put 9k on it so I don't really care but 12 seems so bad.

The wires aren't staying...I'm rerouting but I wanted to see if I liked the look first.
Yeah, you don't drive enough for it to matter. I don't know why but the cost of gas isn't directly
proportionate to me caring. I just don't like the inefficiency of getting less than 20MPG for some
arbitrary reason.

Does your Jeep come with the 4.10 gears? If not then I wouldn't go bigger than 33's or you'll hate life. Either way, don't do it just for the looks. Do it because it'll have a functional impact on your use.

Lights look much nicer. I'm surprised they don't fit in there upside down. Is there a tab or something you can bend out of the way to get it in there? Also, definitely pay someone to regear if you want to do that. It's not a DIY task that you can get wrong and go back and fix later.
I've been rocking the no spare for a while and I like it. You can definitely tell the heavy ass spare isn't on there.

@SamDoe1 no sir, everything on that bumper is pc steel...
I like where I moved them to. For now...if I get a wench I will move them back or figure another way out.
@1StGenCL try 33's with a 3.07 gear ratio I'm leaving it alone though...as discussed I'll drop to a 31 or 32 next time around.
I was reading through a TJ forum gear thread and people added vibration and are good driving at 3000 rpm to go
65mph...fuck that...I can keep it under 2K in 5th going 65.

Nothing major to share...
got some new door straps in...tightened things up and bent the posts back...
old ones were so long the doors would hit the doorless mirror brackets and if I rocked them short they were too short and tearing.
rewired the fogs as well, for now...

fuck no!
I could have picked red for those rubber pieces...actually I had done lime green but there's a point where things match a little too much.
also why I didn't do lime green lug nuts
#519
You shouldn't be doing anyone with lime green nuts...that means they probably have something you don't want to catch.
