Question about hit and run.

My mom was involved in a little fender bender yesterday morning. It was a little parking lot incident, left my moms car with broken front bumper and no damage to the other drivers truck (F150). My mom has never been in a situation like this before so she was kind of scared and didn't know what to do. She exchanged information but the other driver only leaves his phone number and name. No insurance information. No police report was made.

I called him last evening asking about his information so that I can give it to my insurance to get the thing going but he refused to do so. Only thing I got is his phone number/name and his trucks licence plate number. So what are my options right now? If I make a police report is this going to be a hit and run or what?

Call the police and explain everything that happening including the phone call, things will start happening after that.

No its not a hit and run,But if he was at fault and the damage was that serious. You should have involved the police

Give the license number and other info to your mom's insurance company.
BAM, you're done! The insurance company will carry on from there.

FWIW, you can track down the owner of the license plate through the DMV in CA, but it's unnecessary if the insurance company will do that.

It's not a hit-and-run where both/all parties stop to exchange information.

Give it to your insurance company.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I stopped by police station after work only to find out they can't do anything since it was on private property and it wasn't reported at the time of accident. I also talked to the insurance company which is working out better than I thought. I told them I called the other party about his info and he completely refused to do so. They put a note on the claim that other party is not willing to work with them. They will do what police would do now I guess, find out who ever this person is and get him.

Good luck, as the others have said, always call the police. Even with witnesses and such, no policecreport makes it a lot easier for the guilty party to get away.
