Quanaman's Accord Love Thread (Accord starts on Pg 18)

Been toying with the idea of letting her go.
Got the car back yesterday with fresh paint. It was so refreshing to see it cleaned up and it was a blast to drive after almost a month. I need to post it for sale before I decide to keep it, but am still on the fence.

^^^ Sad.......but true.

I promise you guys I'm sad to let it go. I'm ready for something newer, since the car is paid off I'd like to pull the funds out of it for other stuff and get something a little newer most likely on payments. 2013+ Accord most likely. If somehow I can make a 2013+ IS250 work that would be awesome though.
The TL will be listed in the BM shortly

Got a couple more little things done,
First, dropped my bumper off at the body shop to get painted, so hopefully that will go on the car this weekend or sometime thereafter.
Then I was able to get an appointment before it gets too busy to get my windows tinted. Went with 3M Color Stable (hint of blue) in 35% on the side windows and 20% on the rear. I absolutely LOVE it, just hope I don't get hassled too much by the cops. Oh well

Too bad yours was not for sale a week or so earlier, I might have bought yours.
Also, do you like the body shop you frequent?

Super happy with my bodt shop and the tint place!
The tint shop has a lot of high ratings on Yelp, and was close to me. The guy who runs it is really cool and they have quality tint. Cant really go wrong.
The body shop does great work, if you want their info PM me and I can refer you over.

Well nothing really new to report. I'm planning on putting the car back to stock shortly, since I kind of want to move on sooner rather than later and it will probably be easier to sell. In other news thoigh, I had tackle a small project last night.
Was hearing some noise from the drivers side rear brakes a while ago. It went away after a while so I thought it was a pebble or something stuck in the caliper/rotor, but it came back with a vengeance. Pretty sure it was a frozen caliper which is a common problem on these cars as most of us know. I took it apart and sure enough the drivers side caliper was bad.
Decided to swap out both rear calipers, rotors, and pads since my OCD wouldn't just do one side.
Pics for fun

I have someone pretty seriously interested in the car.
The the part out has kind of begun. Over the weekend I swapped out the front suspension back for stock. I also changed the oil since it was already up in the air, and I will be getting an alignment and installing the new wheels and tires for the owner.
My I'll most likely have the suspension, roof spoiler, OEM rims, window visors, maven knob and maybe a few other things posted in the BM soon.

Honestly I would have rather sold it as it was (or as close to it as possible) for what I'm asking. But it looks like most of the people interested want it back to stock (or close to it) for a lower price. It wasn't the case with my last TL's but it is what it is.
Now ill have to remove and deal with packaging and selling a lot of the parts I JUST put on in order to get anywhere near what I was asking. But it is what it is. A labor of love
on the the bright side the new owner will still be getting a lot of new maintenance and other parts as well as the aspec kit and resprayed front end out of the deal! I think it'll be fair when all is said and done.

I received a deposit on the car so it is officially pending sale.
No lie, I saw the ASM 6MT in the BM with 200k miles and for a split second I was like "that's not acolor I've owned..."
for real tho J, having had the unicorn I think I got my fix. It was the main reason I came back. And I love it, I really do!

I'm just baffled as to why you BOTH went out and got kbp 6mt only to sell it a few months down the road for what I would assume would be a loss?
especially getting into repainting stuff, how would you make money on that or break even for that matter.. my car cost 5k to paint and no way did it increase the value by 5k
enlighten me

ummm...you paid too much for a respray?
plus, I had to put a ton of work into the car to clean it up and replace parts...I bought it for a good enough price that I could do all that and break even when I sold the car.
That said, the blood sweat and tears are obviously not documented, no install fees and the like...which is a benefit to being a DIY guy familiar with the platform.
Most of the time, in the instance of the black TL, the silver S2000...and now Blue...I price it for a friend friendly price that still covers my expenditures so there's either little to no money lost. Mods obviously are a loss most of the time, especially included in the sale. I can move my sale price around a bit depending on who buys the car and whether or not they need some of the parts that I KNOW would sell like the flashpro, rims, exhaust bits etc.
It's not an exact science and there are some wins and some losses but at the end of the day, it balances out...it's not a crack or hooker habit, and it gives me pleasure to clean up and make cars nice, experience new things with them, make stories to tell my kid, then move on and try something new.
We'll see where it takes us!

I dont think I paid too much to paint my WHOLE car, especially considering some areas were in rough condition. keep in mind thats 5k canadian hairs. And I'm sure you know, you get what you pay for in regards to paint...I just dont think I could bring myself to do all this stuff to a car to at the end of the day MAYBE break even.
Say I paid 8k for my TL 2 years ago and have since probably put easily 10-15k in mods and maintenance items, theres no chance in hell id get anywheeres close to 20k for my car and not even close to 15k id say, therefore id be taking a massive loss in which my butthole would need to be prepped for.
You are right in the aspect that if you can DIY most of the shit then you are in a better position to get ahead.
Not bashing, I was just curious about the end game

well, in regards to both your replies...
I can tell you I took the BIGGEST bath on the black car cause my mod list and money spent on that car FAR surpassed double what I got for it...
I guess over time though, as you buy new things and enjoy what you got...eventually you're okay with it...I went into blue knowing what I'd get for black and I was okay with it.
Blue, I hadn't had long enough and transferred over enough parts from black that I didn't get in too deep with her before letting go.

As you stated J, you took a huge loss on black, which would be my case as well with blue and I dont think I could justify that type of loss which is why Ill likely keep it until it rots or maybe get lucky and some kid will offer me a vagon for it .

Well, to be completely honest, it all depends on what the car costs you and how good of a deal you get on your parts and everything else, but that of course has been mentioned here.
I think what we are somewhat forgetting is that ALL cars depreciate over time. SO basically, you're going to take a bath on anything you put miles on, new, used, modded or not. SO like J was saying, he took the biggest bath on his Black TL because the price sold far exceeded his costs, but not quite as much on the KBP. The same thing happened with my DGP and my 1st 6MT NBP. I kept each of those for nearly two years, and on both I did some modding and some paint work to keep them perfect. BUT I also put about 30k miles on each one, and that counts for something. Cars depreciate---its what they do. SO that is to be expected. And you always lose some.
Another thing to point out is, if I had a newer car I'd be making payments for the last 6 months, so I'd be losing money on that front too, in addition to age and mod depreciation. No matter how you cut it, you lose somehow. The key is to lose in a way that doesn't hurt as bad, and so that you have fun. As J sort of alluded to, many car guys like us lose money on modding and parts for our cars, but because we are DIYers to a degree, we can always save some of the money lost on mods by doing a lot of maintenance work, and by finding good deals online and other ways to save money (Coupon codes, discounted OEM parts, etc). I bet the average joe who walks into the dealership for all his service loses a shit ton more than the rest of us who mod but do our own maintenance and work!!!

I agree with this statement as well. When you start modifying cars, its like buying a new vehicle and driving it off the lot. Depreciates 10K off the bat with .1 miles on the clock... Sad but true, if you think you will get all your money back for the mods when you sell, I'd recommend not modifying a car because you will not be happy unless you get a buyer where money grows on trees for them. It is something that you have to accept when you do things to vehicles. You may not make money or break even on this one, but down the road you will find a gem and make some money on that one to balance out previous losses.
